Got a new one here, saw this on the news last night.
One of the city counsel men in Atlanta is proposing a "COMMUTER TAX". If you work in Atlanta, but don't live there, he wants to tax 1% of your income. 8O Whoooah.... that raised some stink! It didn't pass in NY, why does this moron think it will work in Atlanta? Some of the comments from the people interviewed were along the lines of: I work here, I buy stuff here, I eat out here, I pay a lot of consumer taxes here, this city is getting my tax money already. Only one bright soccer mom said “I think it is a good idea, but 1% is a little high. I think ½ of a percent would be okay.” 8O Right....ok....so what about companies with headquarters in Atlanta, and branches all over the U.S. Ya' wana tax them folks too? After I threw my napkin at the TV, I argued with her and said, “What do you call a business license? It is a tax for doing business in the #$*%# city!”

But on the bright side, you should have seen how quick the other council people jumped back so it didn't look like that they were in on it. The Governor said that this is a ridiculous idea, will kill any chances of Atlanta getting any future businesses, and that the state will not be a bail out for a poorly managed city with money problems. The new mayor did not have much to say, I wonder this was one of her ideas? :? What is next, a commuter tax for everyone coming and going from Hartsfield Airport? This is a major international airport...... Atlanta OWNS it! Not the state.

Something to make you go hmmmmm.

They have been taxing services in New Mexico for at least 20 years! When I taught real estate there back in the 70s it was a big issue. The tax can be passed thru to the consumer but the paperwork it creates is unbearable. Perhaps it truly is time for some form of flat tax or a national sales tax that exempts food, shelter, and services.

:x WELL WE HAVE TO IN SOUTH DAKOTA!! Rather than Charge a Flat % On each Appraisal--by that I mean that since I live in Yankton, SD 4% goes to the State and 2% to the City of Yankton, SD since I do most of my 'writing' in my office... NO! Stated the Department of Revenue--if I do an Agricultural Property outside a Municipality, I charge 4%; if I conduct a Residential Appraisal on a Rural Acreage, it's 4%, BUT If I do a Residential Appraisal in Yankton, that's 6% and if I also do A Commercial Appraisal (For the Same Client) OUTSIDE The City Limits of Yankton SD, I charge only 4% AND--there is NO SALES TAX ON APPRAISAL FEES IN NEBRASKA...

So We Really Have Eniquities! Yes, We DON'T HAVE a State Income Tax or Personal Property Tax--but it's always the Service Businesses that have the RESPONSIBILITY of Collecting for the State of South Dakota.

as long as their are lawyers in the pa legislature, there ain't
going to be any sales tax on professional services. That's from a friend who is a legislator.

Yet, I thought 6% sales tax was steep in pa, along with a 1.25% state income tax and a 1% local earned income tax, but no tax on clothing and food, or raw materials consumed in your business, but I'm wrong. I like it here!! so it goes....

I guess we're lucky in NH...no sales, nor income taxes! Who knows how much longer this will last.

How, do you ask, does our state get any money from us?
Property Taxes, of course....oh yeah, and the state sells all the liquer.

Cheers!

Shhhhhhhhhh! Don't let Govener "Gravis" out here in California hear about this! He won't be happy 'till he completely destroys our economy!
