Message from the MLS

Dear Agents:

Recently on of our agents received a telephone call from a
gentleman, with an Indian accent, wanting to sell his property.
He provided the correct names on the property for both him and
his wife and it matched the tax records. Told them he wanted a
fast sale because he was now in California and wanted to just
sell the property and purchase property there. The telephone
number provided was (209)449-5139 and the email was the owner's
name @outlook.com

Agent listed the property, took pictures, and when placing the
sign on the property the actual owners confronted the agent.

I get these calls and sms daily. If I have time on my hands, I entertain the caller for a while until they realize I'm BS'ing them.

This is yet another reason people shouldn't watch TV (the kind with commercials). You can lock your credit for free with the agencies just by filling out a form. And there's cheaper much better products out there for security. Carbonite is another one of those things advertised to boomers (ie. TV watchers) when there's better cheaper options (Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, MS's thing).

I'm not trying to pick on boomers too much with my comment, but the generations are different in how they got their info - and tend to trust "authority" (like Ads) more than the next one - and the same personalities tend to fall for a lot of the scammers for the same reasons (even worse with the generation before them). They sucked $20k+ from my own mother after her mind declined.

It is hard to watch tv and not see those ads I mentioned just one. I a m sure there are many ' I bet people get scammed .

I watch CNN. Fox, History Channel My local channel Spectrum-1 gives me local news and weather,
PECTRUM-1 provides TV. Internet , cell phone and Movies the list goes on and on. Sometimes I watch the BBC

During daytime, so many commercials from attorneys selling themselves to get you more money from lawsuits.
And don't forget about those commercials where they can buy your house in cash if you have problems with the property or need quick cash.
If 1 out of 1,000 caller falls for it, money well spent for these hucksters.

Our county register of deeds has a free service called Vanguard Support that will notify you by email about any transactions that take place with your name. You just register and give it the names you want to watch. Recently, my spouse filed a power of attorney for her mother and I was notified the day it was filed with a link to the actual document.. It's better than feeding those leaches that peddle their services with scare tactics. Scammers want to protect you from scammers.

So what do you do with rental scams? This has happened in Charlotte. perp breaks in , vacant house changes locks. Advertises and first people call the # . They meet and fake landlord collects 1st and last month rent deposit . They sign lease and the renters go and get their stuff and move in. Real out of town owner finds out and files for eviction of the now victims. and the Scammer is long gone with the free money. How this works is the real owner was renting or lived there and moved and neighbors knew this. So nothing suspicious

BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE !!. Scammer shows vacant house to three or four people that day and signs lease with partial payment of first month rent from all of them . and they get the keys at the end of the month
