Scanner

Will,

There aren't many reasonably-priced scanners that can be purchased new with a legal-size scanbed. The only ones I am aware of are:

* Hewlett-Packard Scanjet 8200 ($479/PC Connection)

* Microtek Scanmaker i700 ($350/CDW)

* Microtek ScanMaker® X12USL ($260/CDW)

* Umax Powerlook 1000 ($400/Umax)

An alternative is a sheet-fed scanner, such as the Fujitsu ScanSnap fi-5110EOX.

I use an ancient Microtek V6UPL that I purchased at least 5 years ago from Best Buy for $27.00. It still works surprisingly well.

If you plan on going paperless, consider a sheet fed scanner. I went with a higher priced one, I don't think I regret it, its about 1 second per page, so I don't sit there waiting. I don't know how anyone could hand scan a workfile without blowing their brains out in a week.

If you don't care about the digital workfiles, there are tons of cheap flat bed scanners out there, problem would be narrowing the choices.

I use a fast kodak i40 sheet fed scanner.

Good luck,
