Security bars on windows?? (FHA)

I have seen many that were padlocked or had a deadbolt type set-up. I suppose a 6 year old could handle unlocking the grate with flames climbing up their backside. I have always been a little iffy about those. I guess I could call the city tomorrow and get a ruling. *** much trouble as I have with keys and locks, I would sure hate to my life depending on getting a lock opened that quickly.

Plus, I think the opening has to be of a certain size.

Chuck,

I've checked. Locally, the locks are a violation of fire code. I suppose in the south valley, if you're going to play averages, it's obviously more likely that your home will be broken into, than to catch fire. I still wouldn't risk my kids over it.

Tawfik,

That underwriter was rather short sighted and inflexible. Inadequate crawlspace as in the house is 6" off the ground, OK. But it's there, and covered by a deck? I'm sorry. It's an easy fix if one really has to get to the plumbing and ductwork down there. The DEU can waive such items in cases that make sense. From what you've described, that one certainly makes sense to me.
