Septic Tank Lid

Hi All!
I just inspected a property and found the septic tank lid (concrete) has a corner chunk missing. This allows rain water to enter as well as little critters. This is an FHA assignment.
Any advice on how to address this?

Describe it. Water getting in is okay. And any critter that falls into a septic tank probably needed to be excluded from the gene pool anyway.

The lid is square concrete. The corner is missing. Too much extra water in the system dilutes the "good" bacteria and floods the system. This isn't normally going to happen unless there is a lot of rain. A hurricane will mess up most septic systems. But this is open to dirt too. That isn't going to process and ultimately settle to the bottom of the tank. The critters will decay. No problem there.
So.. . Is this an issue that will require a repair or just an "honorable mention"?

It's certainly worthy of describing. I don't think I'd make a repair condition. The DEU can make that call.

A house we used to own had a broken corner on the lid. Curiously, the piece broken off was exactly the same diameter as the suction hose used to service it. Made it easier on Brownie the serviceman. Awe, you don't think that Brownie would do something like that........

I would make a repair condition and the underwriter could decide. Any number of foreign items could enter the tank and cause a system failure and nobody wants a septic failure, nobody.

Cost to cure: a rock to cover the hole.

Doesn't matter what the cost is. If a threshold has been passed, condition it. I guess if the chunk is quarter sized then the repair is minimal, if over half is broken off, there would be a couple of concerns including safety.

I'm not sure I would even bother the describe that. Are you sure it's not intentional to get a tool in to lift the lid?
