Doing an appraisal for an out of state individual. I am thinking of sending it COD to make sure I get paid. I remember her saying on the phone they were disappointed with the value her father (now deceased) got on an appraisal for a re-fi a year or so ago. I know the Appraiser and seems my value and his are very close. Not that that is a surprise to me.

I am thinking that the smart thing to do is send the Appraisal COD. Who has the best rates and is most flexible for the customer on COD?

Jeff,

Get her to pay you paypal. Tell her you will deliver report via PDF upon receipt and mail her a hard copy the next day.

Easy as pie.

Thanks but I asked about COD's.

I am set up with Paypal on my website.

If you're going COD, us the Post Office. At least it's somewhat of a gvt. agency.

Yeow! I've never sent an appraisal COD, and I'm thinking the lenders going to hit the roof.

I haven't worked with an out of state client in forever, but when I did I'd demand the fee upfront. The borrower either wrote me a check at the time of the inspection or I'd decline the order. I'd then cash the check before delivery.

I got tired of out of state lenders trying to burn me on the appraisal fee (even if they made the loan). Fly-by-nighters were another huge problem...crooks would open and close companies on a regular basis in the past, and disappear with ten's of thousand's of the appraiser's hard earned dollars (happened quite frequently years ago).

If I can't get paid It would be cheaper for me to go fishing!!!

Sorry about the repost, but some of my original text was lost.

I've used all 4 majors ( FedEx, UPS, Airborne, USPO ) All 4 are good at getting your cash. Cost ranking from highest to lowest usually are.

1. FedEx
2. UPS
3. AirBorne
4. USPO

The quickest, most reliable and easist to track from fastest to slowest are:

1. FedEx
2. UPS
3. AirBorne
4. USPO

It's up to you. The nice thing about these COD's is the cash is either a money order or cert. check. NO bouncing alowed.
Alot of the out of state lenders we've dealt with have their overnight number on the order. ( less and less since PDF ).

When "Shipping COD" don't forget to pack it in ice or it will stink when it gets there! :o

Better than Paypal is good old Western Union. Almost every City has a place and you get the money in CASH within minutes or hours.
