Announced today that Simmons will buy out Peterson. I wasn't surprised there was a buyout but I am surprised it was Simmons. Like a lot of other producers, Simmons and Peterson have been hit hard by high grain prices.
Unfortunately, Peterson was a one man show for 3/4 century and with the death of the founder, I think the obstacles to a smooth transition was too great in the cold hard facts of a balance sheet.
On a personal level, a friend recently quit Simmons to work for Peterson and will now be returning to the fold, so to speak. I suspect he will simply quit but maybe not. He is both a field man and a grower.
