hey gang,

i'm old school in that i still use graph paper when i measure a house and hand sketch things. i'm used to using the worms and forms graph paper but it's pretty pricey- 15 cents per sheet. does anyone use a more cost efficient alternative or know of where i can find graph paper that is ideal for our line of work?

thanks

Here's a pdf of the artwork I created for a sketch sheet. I have a local print shop print these in two colors. Non-repro blue for the grids and black for the boxes at the top. 5,000 sheets per printing costs about $300. The last time I had them printed my brother, dad and I were working together and it was during the refi boom. I still have half the order and it appears to be a lifetime supply.:)

You can print this on your laser printer for a penny each. But the grids will be black. You could use a colored pen or pencil and it will work fine. Or, you may be able to figure out a way to make your color printer print them in a light color.

Greg,

You are a financial savior. I'll send you 14 cents per sheet that i have printed! ;)

I print these out as I need them on my B&W laser printer. The full legal-size grid makes it easier to sketch large 2 or 3 level homes. My check list goes underneath. Note: It looks funny until you print it out.

The Uni-Ball Signo bold (0.8 mm) blue ink erasable gel pens work great (I buy 'em by the 12 pack), and erase much more cleanly than regular erasable pens.

I am also old school and do a sketch with interior rooms and closets and bath fixture placements on graph paper. The best paper I've found, and the cheapest--is at Staples: (534552--PAD QUAD EFFC 5SQ/IN 8.5X11 WE ) This is only 3.29/pad--double sided---50 sheets per pad. It is all I have used for years. The 5 squares per inch fits almost all but the biggest houses.

Graph paper

Does anyone use Apex sketching? You can print off graph paper right off of that application. And if you're going out to the property, fill in your heading and address information, then its set up to transfer to your sketch program.

I just print this out

See if this works for you.
