Snipping Tool: Missing Downloads

Status
Not open for further replies.
I wore the damn pictures folder out yesterday trying to find the screenshot folder. Maybe I need to create a screenshot folder so the Snip It downloads have somewhere to go????
There are 3 .... on the far right-hand side of the snipping tool window. That is the menu selection for the application. Take a screenshot and then click on those dots, the second option down should be "open screenshots folder". Choose that option and then see where the program thinks that folder is/should be.

From ChatGPT:

The Windows Snipping Tool doesn't automatically download files anywhere, instead, it opens a new window with the captured screenshot that you can then save manually. By default, it will save files to the last location you chose to save a snip.
If you are saving a snip for the first time, it will suggest to save the file to your Pictures library. You can choose a different folder if you prefer, and the Snipping Tool will remember that location next time you save.
To save a snip:
  1. After your capture, the Snipping Tool will show your snip in a new window.
  2. Click the "File" menu in that window, and then click "Save As."
  3. In the Save As dialog box, type a name for the snip, choose a location where you want to save it, and then click "Save."
Remember, this information is valid up to my last training data in September, 2021. Always refer to the latest official Windows documentation for the most up-to-date information.

That's the thing. The app starts to work as always but after I take the snip, the snipped image with the Save As option no longer presents itself, nor can I find the snip results in any of several folders described on various internet websites where users are asking similar questions. I am questioning my very existence because of this problem. LOL
It's possibly because I never save any snips, I just highlight whatever on a Plat or Deed, copy and paste it into my report (edit tool), and this discard it. I'm keeping a copy of my report, so I don't save all that stuff. My computers are junked up enough as it is. The IT dept. (my husband) is after me to Defrag, backup, one drive, cloud, etc. and I'm just typing as fast as I can to help dispel the myth that there is an undersupply of appraisers and people are waiting weeks to get reports when in reality the lenders are waiting 2 weeks to review reports, despite having them back with 2-3 days.

Your comment made me think that maybe I have overlooked the most logical process, to highliight/copy/paste. So I just tried. I am able to do so from the body of a comparable MLS listing, but I am unable to copy/paste anything from a Google doc, for example. And I also created a subfolder named "Screenshets" in my "Pictures" folder, based on a prior comment, but snips aren't going there. Do you guys have Microsoft licenses? I gave mine up when the last desktop fried and I am just relying on Google docs & sheets, although I saw a comment somewhere on the net that implied that the Snipping Tool now requires a MS license. That sucks might it makes sesne based upon the preditory protocol. HMMMMMM.

Just get Snagit; it's way better than the Windows snipping tool.

There was or still is a problem with some apps like Snipping Tool failing because of an expired certificate on Windows 11. I don't know if they have fixed it yet - because after 2 months on Windows 11, I discovered a couple of weeks ago it is still not ready for prime time - at least not if you are going to run Linux, Docker on your computer with a bunch of complex apps. -- And it turns out I am not the only one to have encountered problems.

Now, I plan on staying on Windows 10 until at least 2025. The advantages of Windows 11 over 10 are really not that great.

The biggest greatest thing now is really ChatGPT 4 Plus. That is just like having an expert sitting right by your side when it comes to development, IT and a host of other things. It really takes away the advantage of working in a large team or organization. So, it is indeed a good thing, if you ask me.

I have not upgraded to Windows 11 on my desktop computers, but I have it on my Surface Pro 8, and it is incompatible with some applications. For instance, Fences, which is a desktop organizing software, functions well on both my Windows 10 devices, but I cannot make it work on the Surface, which runs Windows 11. I have reached out to Stardock, the developers of Fences, and they point to Microsoft as the cause. Then I contact Microsoft, and they point to Stardock as the cause. Therefore, I am not upgrading to Windows 11 on my desktop computers.

Do you do snip> edit >copy? Then paste where you want it?
Or do you snip> file> save as?
If you save as then mine goes into the "download" file. Firefox. Chrome is awful every time I tried to use it.

I like fences as well. I did get it to run on my Windows 11 in my big desktop when I had it installed. But it was more problematic than on Windows 10.

Fences is not perfect, never was. You can lose icon groups - when they fall off into some screen off to the right. For example, if you have two monitors and you accidentally somehow pull one group off to the right of the rightmost monitor. If you get in the habit of saving your fence configuration - you can always recover. So, you have to learn to do a few things like locking your groups, - otherwise they will roll-up on you if you click in not quite the right location. But saving the Fences configuration occasionally is the most important thing.

I have a Surface Book 2 - with Windows 11 (since it is not loaded down with complex configuration). But, I don't need to run Fences on it, - I don't use it that much - just when I am on trips.

Yes, it is Microsoft. It's only $125 a year for one drive and office (word, excel, outlook) but that's for 5 computers and I only have 2 laptops and I backup everything on it. Sometimes you can catch a special for lifetime subscriptions but I never seem to catch it in time. I also use Mozilla browser primarily. I've used Snag it before too and it's similar if you don't need Microsoft.
