Sq Ft Chart to measure Gazebos

Gazebos are kind of a pain to measure and I ran across this and thought I'd share it with all of you. Just measure the inside diameter of the gazebo, count the number of sides and refer to the guide below. (.5 = 6 inches).

You could even just count the sides and measure a side length and match it to get your sq footage.

Diameter from center to center or corner to corner?

Good question. Not sure. I just found this chart. You'd have to measure a side and match it to the correct answer. Not that it will make much difference...they're not that far off from a circle if you measure the mid points.

The diameter should be the length from opposite flats, as if you were drawing a circle that is tangent to all of the outer flat edges (from a view from above).

Looks like all you need is the diameter OR the length of the flat, they are dependent on each other. I.e. a 6 sided with 4 lengths of flats will always have an 8 diameter measurement. Great chart, thanks!

To use a circle, it would have to be a measure from the midpoints between the center and the end of the flat side. You measure the center and it's too small...measure tip to tip, it's too large.

but this is getting silly...like the market goes by exact measurements of sq ft of a gazebo.

Just measure the length of 1 flat and you're done. Easy peasy.

You know, my drawing program allows me to choose a complex shape (5 to 12 sides) and assuming all side have an equal measurement on each side, which is typically true of most gazebos I've seen, its simply a matter of clicking on the screen and then expanding or contracting the shape until the correct measurement is obtained.

Your chart is for corner to corner diameters. Apex has an easy way to draw hexagons and octagons, just enter the side length and the number of sides.

Its pretty simple math. It takes 360 degrees to make it close, so divide 360 by the number of sides (6 sides=60, 8 sides=45) So measure 1 side and put it in your sketch program and keep inputting the same length @ 60 degrees (or 45 if 8 sided) until it closes. East peasy.

Total sketch and apex (I think) inputs for one with 4 foot sides and 8 sides is 4R45 enter, repeat until it closes (or 4L45 to go counterclockwise)
