States that have reciprocity w/ Florida?

Why is Florida so limited in its reciprocity? Is that the case in many states?

Reciprocity between the state appraiser agencies is via a contractual agreement between the state agencies (OR has contracts with 23 - I think). I don't think that FL has contracts with any other state (do you, Frank?), but they have some form of recognition agreement with a few (Georga for sure).

As to the why OJ's home state behaves that way - ask Frank.

Most other states do maintain reciprocity with others - particularily with contigious states.

If you intend to move to another state - ask that state's agency. You might even be able to pettition that state's agency/board.

One of the more common problems is that a minimually qualified appraiser in one state obtains a reciprcal lic/cert in a second state that has reciprocity with a third state in order to move to that third state. That no longer works (with us). Most states require that you show proof of qualification and that you meet the state's requirements and the reciprocity is on a like - for -like lic/cert only.

States that no longer issue licenses can not accept you if you are a licensed appraiser. It's a more complicated issue than it ought to be - but that's the way it is.

I sort of figured someone (Frank would be best) from Florida might answer that question, Oregon Doug. :new_smile-l:

'Cause we have enough stinkin' appraisers, that's why!!!! :D :D :D

This has been discussed before, IIRC Flawida thinks other states don't screen for criminals.

But IMO this is the real answer:

Not true. Florida has a "mutual recognition" with Georgia, that is not the same as recprocity.

Barnacles...I just wrote a long response to how I was right and you were wrong, and now I find myself editing that response.

I was in a class with a well known and very good instructor in Florida and thought - no, I really was positive - that I heard Georgia and Florida are reciprocating...I searched through my books, I looked on state applications, and I went to the site where you posted from. I stand fully corrected. Florida does not reciprocate with anyone.

Thanks for the heads up Chris,

The difference between "mutual recognition" and "reciprocity" is that one must pass a test under "mutual recognition." The fact is that many states that have "reciprocity" will require an out-of-state appraiser to take a test too, if they move their business to the state. The test requirement will likely go away as the AQB works to force a national exam into place.
