Stock market is down

That's a silly example Do you think we should import goods from viet nam

FTR VN has responded to trumps tariffs

Maybe look at what we import from them and see if its a good idea. A blanket tariff is kind of dumb, it should be targeted at what we can produce ourselves. For instance, the US does not really have a textile industry, so we import many of our textiles from other countries, including Vietnam. Maybe leave out the textiles from the tariff until we have a textile manufacturing base? which BTW could be years down the road. That is just an example.

Excellent t Point. When I moved to North Carolina after the military 2989 NC & SC both had a very large textile industry. We grew a lot of cotton and they took the cotton to the local textile mills . Well all the mills closed and went to I think south America and we imported cloths from those countries,

My county was able to get some industry like Freight Liner by giving them Property Tax Breaks. There are some other industry here, Can't recall who because I don't pay a lot of attention to it.

So the Mill owners live right here in my city and county . They live very well. They are very RICH.

Now we prosper here because Charlotte that we border is a major banking and Insurance Center. Lots and lots of people drive to charlotte to work.

You are correct that the US textile industry, which was based in NC has been decimated and is just a shell of its former self, but why do you think that is? The industry was pretty strong in the US until the 1990's when 650 textile plants closed between 1997 and 2009....why do you think that happened? COuld it possible be due to NAFTA and the "normalization" of rtrade relations with China and many other Asian nations?

It was cheaper over seas. Not NAFTA, cheaper. Last I checked Vietnam is was not part of NAFTA.
