My advice would be to learn as much as you can while you are with this firm. When you are close to, or become, Certified then go out and interview with some firms and see what they have to offer. Choosing your supervisor/mentor is one of the most important decisions that you will make in your appraisal career. My first supervisor was good at small cap stuff, but always complained that he didn't get shots at valuing more complex assets. When I moved on to a larger firm with a very knowledgeable supervisor, I learned that he would not have known how to properly value the more complex assets had he been awarded the assignment.
