Appraisal Bias Compliance Management in Focus

On February 12, 2024, the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) issued a concise statement on Examination Principles Related to Valuation Discrimination and Bias in Residential Lending. Although the document is styled as a statement of principles, it sets forth a compliance management framework for which banks, credit unions and mortgage lenders will be examined as to their oversight of appraisals and property valuations. The statement further indicates that evidence of valuation discrimination or bias may negatively affect an institution’s safety and soundness, which will be reflected in examination ratings. While the statement references appraiser independence requirements – which were established, in large part, due to concerns about risks in inflated appraisals and overvaluation post-financial crisis – its discussion of risk is tied exclusively to undervaluation, discrimination and bias, with the focus on lack of access to credit, credit offered on less favorable terms or steering to a narrower product offering.

According to the statement, lenders will have to apply the typical compliance management system framework to assessing and evaluating risk of discrimination in appraisal practices. This includes:

Why? It wouldn't be the first time someone was cancelled because of "pronouns" or similar bs. The below is from an ABC affiliate

The MS Society confirmed to The National Desk Thursday that Itkoff was asked to step away from the organization because she made "statements that were viewed as not aligning with our policy of inclusion." The non-profit even doubled down on the intent behind its original decision, confirming that its staff had "acted with the best of intentions" when asking Itkoff to step away.
Again there's more to the story.
I think "he/she" is sufficient but if someone corrects me to be more political correct, I'll let them have their way.
In my mind, I don't think it's a big issue and not be outspoken about it. Got to know when to pick your battles.
Itkoff must have made a big issue out of it in alienating the staff.

Again why? You don't think that a 90 year old woman may not understand or even know about the whole dei and pronoun thing. Every report I have seen states she just asked for an explanation of what it meant. They don't want questions because they don't have any logical answers. Just do it and shut up.

In a social or private situation I would tell them to "talk to the hand". In a professional setting I just ignore them. Did it at a concert right after covid. Two young "ladies" criticizing all of the "old people" not wearing masks. So they were wearing their cloth designer masks. But they kept on taking them off to share a beer. But my words were a little more "forceful" than "talk to the hand". Got a thumbs up from all of those "old people".

That explains it. She's 90 years old. Some old people can't accept change. Still living old ways. That's why need to be Woke.
