I only use my Fat Max for interiors, but, i have found it to be accurate. For the first few weeks, i measured with both Fat Max and the regular old tape measure, it seems to work pretty good.

With a Disto, there is usually a target, like TC said. If not, you can shoot at an object beyond the corner and then go to the corner and shoot again and use the subtraction feature. Sometimes you have to shoot at an electrical panel from one direction, then go to the other end and shoot it in the other direction and use the addition feature adn add for the width of the panel etc. Or , like one I did today, leaned my clipboard against the foundation, walked to the other end and shot the clipboard. Still faster than a tape, and I stayed out of the bushes and spider webs. They also sell stick on targets, some folks use skicky notes or a piece of duck tape as targets if its not too windy.

Mr. Rex-

Not to knock you..........but this is what baffles me about laser users. How can it be quicker to place a clipboard at point A, walk to point B, shoot to point A, walk back to point A to get the clipboard, then walk back past point B to go to point C? It seems as if you walk the length of that one wall 3 times as compared to 1 time with a tape! Am I missing something?

Staying out of the bushes. The one I did today, I would have needed quail hunting chaps, a biker jacket adn helmet to get through the head high shrubs on 2 sides of the house. Try pulling a tape over the top, doesn't work, keeps falling off etc. Believe me, I was a skeptic too, and I pull a mean tape.

I'm not a stab a screw driver in the ground at the end of the tape 10 ft from the foundation and eye it kinda guy. If I were, I would just as well heel to toe step the one pair of shoes that I have that is exactly 12 inches long. Sum-beeches hurt my toes.

hahahaha.........i hear ya.....

so, with all of the bushes, how did you shoot the laser? Do you laser every home or use the tape some too?

Today I shot under the bushes. I haven't pulled a tape in about a year. I do have one in the truck if the batteries die. Cuts measuring time in half on a run of the mill house, takes 1/4 the time on a big, cut up Mc Mansion.

Which Disto do you have? Do you sketch in the field on a tablet? What part of NC?

I bought the D3 today from Matt! Hopefully it will arrive before the weekend so I can begin to learn how to use it. I will let you know how it goes.

I was thinking about this some more, and what other technology i use. I have also a blackberry curve which allows me to check my email no matter where i am. I also dont use a fax machine, i use an e fax servcice which gives me a toll free fax number and sends my fax straight to my email. So in the field, i can check my email and fax which i find to be a great help.Thern, do you also use the online Knoxville zoning website which gives specific zoning via the internet?
This is also an invaluable data tool.

"Do you use it for interior and exterior.....some of both....or what? I am still baffled by the straight 55' wall along the side of a house....and how you can measure that accurately."

You can get removeable stickum at craft stores - they also sell vinyl sheets. Just stick it on the end of the house and shoot. It even works in the rain. I keep 2 8x10 sheets on my clipboard [with the stickum in the middle] in case I don't have a handy drain pipe or fence.
