The Colorado Mountain Crash and STR is a big cause for Over-priced Housing

but it can be a btch trying to get into a restaurant afterwards.
There was a bar at Steamboat Village which a buddy of mine was complaining about gaining weight..."I only drank light beer" he swore. Yeah, I sit in there with him, drink 4 beers and he drank 12...plus all the chips and salsa you could eat...good luck with a diet.

Steamboat is one of my favorites places to ski
They also have the best orthopedic doctors there. We found out when one of the crews driller flipped a pickup and broke his hip. They air flighted him to Steamboat, not to Denver.

The bone docs get a lot of practice with the ski slope nearby. Lots of broken bones from people that should be on the bunny hill thinking the black runs 'don't look that hard'.

Trust me, some of the black runs are pretty hard at Steamboat; moguls the size of VW Beetles. Not as hard as the blacks at Jackson Hole but hard enough to break something.

My only trip to Jackson Hole was myself and three girls, driving 32 hours straight thru for Michigan in a 442 convertible. Heat was on high, with those in the front down to tee shirts and those in the back wearing their ski jackets. Below 0 temps and no roof insulation. Stayed at a place called The Hostel. Just did a search and it is still in business. They still have the same style room we stayed in, a bunk bed and two single beds, all attached to the wall. They had a large game room and fireplace room in the basement under the lobby. The only thing that has changed is there are now trees and looking at the map all the buildings. When we were there, it was the closest building to the mountain. One of the girls had never snow skied, so she had some choice comments when we drove into the area, I think her exact words were NFW. After five days skiing Jackson Hole we headed down to Steamboat for a week and then straight thru back to Michigan.

Sounds like a great trip!! Apparently, it was at least memorable.
All my trips, especially those in the 70’s were memorable. Made multiple driving trips with the 442 and a Volkswagen van, with a variety of college friends to Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. Lots of skiing, drinking and staying in cheap hotels and motels.

the bunny hill
Speaking of bunnies, our next door neighbors were two nurses from Canada, Angela and Danielle if I recall correctly - real cuties. One of our crew did everything possible to get a date with either one, they were in the market for a doctorl.. he had no luck. They were nurses at the local hospital and lived in the condos in summer and bunched up in a house in town with about 4 other nurses in winter.
