For those of us "State line" appraisers, we were given notice that we MUST file income tax returns in OK in order to get our license renewed. So I had my CPA prepare the tax years 2011, 2012, and 2013. Then we filed 2014. But meanwhile the Okla Tax Commission had sent a letter demanding the 2010 and 2009 returns? (never mind I have no Oklahoma clients and all my bank clients are based here in Arkansas even if they have OK branches, the appraisals are ordered from either Bentonville or Fayetteville). And none of the non-bank clients have been in OK, mostly located here in AR. WTF? So after the regular season, my CPA prepared the 2010 return but could not find the disk to his software for 2009 as he had replaced the computer twice since 2009 and it was pass the 5 years normally needed. In September, my CPA suddenly died. So my new CPA filed 2016. And to file a new 2009, basically they would have to reconstruct the federal return since it is basically required - In all I've spent about $1,000 reconstructing or submitting OK returns for both my S corp and personal...

So my new CPA calls the Ok Tax Comm. and they tell her that they don't want these returns, don't know why the state passed this rule, and don't even know what to do with them. The computer is sending out the notices. "Please just send us a certified letter stating you have no income in the state." This is being done. Now it waits to be seen if the message makes it to the Insurance Commission when I go to renew my license in October.

I guess this is the head banging money wasting "fun" you get for crossing state lines. :cautious:

I paid good money to submit OK state returns of $0.00 from 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 and now I find they don't even want them? I haven't had an OK bank client since the late 90s.

I'm just glad that NJ, NY, MD, VA, NC, SC, GA, and CA have not sent me letters to file State income tax forms.
Especially since I haven't done any business in any of them.
The two sure things in life: Death and Taxes
