By biggest issue with the global warming money grab (and that's exactly what it is) is that it takes all the attention away from real tangible environmental issues that we can address now (river cleanup, ocean trash etc).

Also, Americans aren't going to like the solution to reducing our carbon footprint (which is bye-bye suburbia and mall-crawlers and hello mixed use and walking/public transit)

When a temperature station is closed, NOAA does not drop it out of the data, rather it creates a false reading from the closest stations as a "proxy" for what the station should have read...which of course, no one can predict. Probably 1 in 4 stations have been encroached by development, parking lots, nearby concrete buildings, etc. which registers a "heat island" impact that is rarely adjusted for. And, it violates NOAA's own standard. So, instead of moving the station to a site unaffected by nearby buildings and pavement, it continues to use them unadjusted.
