This is Insanity at its Worst

Then why are you for oil drilling off our coast?
Why not? Energy is the key to the economy. And affordable energy is key. In Denmark, electricity costs 5x the average US consumer pays. This means the average European is living in a cold house in winter and a warm one in summer. Air Conditioning is rare even in new homes in Europe. Only the rich can afford AC.

Pretending wind and solar will replace oil and gas (especially gas) is ludicrous. And, worse, it is a fraud. The impact of wind and solar is at least, if not more than, as toxic as anything oil and gas production does. Look at the base of a wind turbine. The concrete and reinforcing steel weighs 2,000,000 lb. or more. Concrete is one of the most polluting industries that exists. Never mind the hundreds of trips a concrete truck must make between the site and the concrete plant. And steel takes a lot of energy to produce. Then the turbine contains a hundred gallons or more of oil. The copper wiring is NINE tons of wire in the turbine and associated wiring. Copper is usually open mined. That's in a 3 MW turbine. The total energy consumed by a turbine is enormous meaning it literally takes years for it to produce enough electricity to offset the cost. And then what happens?

Most times the concrete is left in the ground and makes the land unusable. The blades cannot be recycled so they end up in the landfill. The wiring can be recycled but will require loading and trucking back to a smelter. A well after its useful life, can be plugged and normally won't ever be an issue again. And the energy density of a barrel of oil is multiples of the energy a turbine produces in an hour. Google it - a typical barrel of oil holding the equivalent of roughly 1,700 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy which takes a turbine hours to achieve. And the typical well offshore produces hundreds of barrels of oil a day.

Only one source will produce enough electricity to electrify the country - nuclear. How many of them have been built recently? 1. And even at that it is silly to pretend we will be CO2 net neutral or "carbon-free". Building the EV cars and converting buildings to all electric comes at a high cost and likely would be 2-5 x more expensive to heat and cool than natural gas. I heat with wood with electric back up. Last month I was out for a week recouping from a biopsy and was not supposed to lift anything. I got my electric bill yesterday. It was $70 higher than last month - I bet more than half that was just for week I didn't use wood and the weather was rather mild. Don't think it frosted a day that week. If I used electric only (my house is all-electric except for the wood furnace) my bill would likely be triple that it is normally using wood.

One last question.... If you ban all oil and gas, what are you going to drive your car on? Will we have to replace all highways with concrete...and those are steel reinforced as well... or will we revert back to dirt roads? Where do you think we get asphalt from?
