This Won't end Well for Germany

It's almost like the western world is surrendering, very alarming.

The EU Commission plans to classify investments in gas-fired power plants or nuclear power plants as climate-friendly. This should help to achieve the goal of climate neutrality by 2050.
Gee, that's more enlightened that the policy of the state of Colorado....they've shut down coal and want to shut down all natural gas...no matter if it decimates the raptor population.

France has stopped all drilling, they are mothballing their nukes, and I am curious. How can wind energy replace all fossil fuel energy when there are often periods of dead calm lasting several days?

Defects in the safety cooling system French nuclear authority admits possible problems with further nuclear power plant

Due to technical problems, the nuclear reactor in Penly, France, is shut down. For various reasons, ten nuclear power plants are currently off the grid nationwide. When a cold spell comes in winter, power outages threaten.
The French nuclear regulator has acknowledged a possible safety problem at another nuclear power plant. "The shortcomings found in the last generation reactors have also been identified at another reactor in Penly in northern France," Karine Herviou, deputy head of the French Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN), said on Thursday. In December, cracks were discovered in a safety cooling system in the Civaux nuclear power plant in western France.
The energy company EDF had then also shut down two reactors in the Chooz nuclear power plant near the Belgian border as a precaution, as they had been built according to the same concept and could also be affected by safety deficiencies. "We don't know if there are problems elsewhere. EDF is in the process of reviewing all its data from previous controls," Herviou said.
Ten of France's 56 nuclear reactors are currently out of service for various reasons. The shutdown of the reactors meant that the nuclear power plants produced only between 43 and 51 gigawatts instead of 60 gigawatts in January – and that in winter, of all places, where the electric heaters alone require about 30 gigawatts.
The grid operator RTE has already warned that in the event of a cold spell, industrial plants must be shut down or that there could be hourly power outages in private households.

The insanity of it all is Germany will be dependent on Russia for natural gas, all the while Germany is our “partner” in NATO. I suppose in the DemoPublican war room they have a plan to confront the Russians and rescue Germany in the event of Russia cutting off the natural gas lines.

Not necessary. Germany has been turned into a nation of PUs... errr... puPPIES (see what I did there?) who will roll over whenever their "Gas Masters" from The East bark a command ...

That won't end well either. Ukraine would like to join NATO. Russia is basically saying no. Either join their alliances or be taken over. The same will happen to the Baltic states.

F Ukraine wanting to join NATO. Anyone want WW3? No? Well then that is NOT in our best interest.

Ukraine needs to "Finlandize" its foreign policy and continue acting like a buffer area that they are ...

Germany has always been dependent on Russia for oil and gas and thats why Hitler Invaded it as his military equipment was running out of fuel. The Ukraine was part of USSR and we are now trying to block off Russia supply lines and to use Ukraine for military bases and oepartiins under the guise that its for NATO defensive purposes only. We are essentially trying to start a war with Russia as they know they have to get hold of that land again or be pinned in a corner. Biden says we will use economic pressure on Russia but he doesn't realzie he will be throwing Germany and France into a economic world of hell. BUT he is not real bright nor are his advisors so he will probaly add this to his long list of failures .

Russia, which bears us no ill will beyond wanting to protect its security by having a buffer zone around its borders (which has always been Russia's #1 foreign policy goal, even in the Communist Era) has been turned into a "Boogie Man" by the same people who have been selling our weapons and intellectual property to China for a generation, while turning a blind eye to China's saber-rattling and Fentanyl-fueled destabilizing efforts.

Basically, The Democrat Party of the USA has turned into Lebron James. "See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil" when it comes to our #1 21st Century opponent nation.

I would not blindly trust Russia, because.......
The Budapest Memorandum is an agreement signed in 1994 that protected Ukrainian sovereignty, provided the country handed over to Russia what nuclear weapons it had in the wake of the Soviet Union’s collapse.

I have no idea why my father hated the French so much but he would say he had wished we woudl have handed it over to Stalin and let the Russians deal with them.

Probably De Gaulle who was an insufferable jerk at times. De Gaulle hated the Brits for sinking French ships in N. Africa after the "Free French" Admiral refused to sail the ships to the US or S. America. So Churchill felt compelled to blast them out of the water killing hundreds of French sailors. Even in the last hours the Admiral was asked to cooperate and "surrender". He refused resulting in the needless deaths of his sailors. The French never forgot the incident so Eisenhower had to deal with De Gaulle, an arrogant and egotistical fellow despite Churchill supporting De Gaulle in every way. By war's end, De Gaulle also hated the Americans. Of course, the joke was selling a French military MAS-36 rifle with the claim "Only dropped once." In truth, the French soldiers were good but gave up easily mainly due to a lack of leadership and competent Generals.

Same with the Italians. The soldiers were much better than the Generals who led them and Mussolini had not modernized the weaponry of the Army and they were bested by superior tactics and a lack of logistical support. The Indian Gurkas ran them out of Ethiopia, The Greeks whipped them all the way back into Albania, and previously in wars, the Austrians had decimated their ranks in battles over their borders.

As for the Brits, after the disaster at Kasserine Pass, where green US troops were whipped by Rommel and Arnim in a pincer movement (my dad's cousin was captured there) the Brits started calling the Americans "our Italians". Never mind 80% of the equipment and food Britain got was from the US.
