Good post and a great deflection from the question that I posed as well! It seems as if "conservative nationalist parties" have problems with international borders on a near constant basis, especially in Europe. At the present time I am worried about Russia gobbling up or intimidating into acquiescence all our traditional European allies just when we need them and their economic power to counter China. It's time to be maintaining and rebuilding our alliances, not abandoning them.

Your comments were vague. It seems you were comparing the Conservative Nationalist party of Russia, to a pre-World II Fascist party such as the Nazi Party of Germany. That would be kind of stupid, IMO.

For the countries that are already part of NATO, they are fairly safe. In fact, there is active talk among major European leaders about moving NATO and France towards a "United States of Europe".

But Russia really does want the Ukraine. Very badly. And they want to take it back, before it is too late. 50-50 it is, depending on Germany. Maybe Germany thinks the Ukrainians are too lazy to deal with or some such thing. For whatever reason, Germany is not excited about the Ukraine.

I would put Hungary and Poland in that category as well.

Both of these countries can be expected to be successful in technology. Good scientists, engineers and researchers.

When you consider who was marching in Charlottesville in support of Donald Trump, our own "Conservative Nationalist" why do you think it's "stupid" to compare that that movement to the Nazi party of Germany? The countries in NATO are safe as long as NATO is safe, when the United States gives up on the idea NATO is finished and will succumb to Russian nuclear blackmail in short order. I think Germany got spooked and decided to seek accommodations with the bully on the block now that their American bodyguards have given up on them. That is not a positive development.
