UAD 3.6: No need to drive comp photos

The odds increases as you get near 5 PM when homeowners get back home.
If they approach me, I tell them why I am taking the photo. When they get indignant, I tell them that Google did the same thing and even posted the photos on the internet. At least I am not posting them online.

I just tell them it's for an appraisal I'm doing. The owner would say why? I just drive away after taking my photo.
Owner should know the appraisal process since they recently bought that house.

What are you people doing that they see you are taking a picture, leaning out the widow to shoot. I figured out long ago how to take stealth photos.

I got some city streets that i could stick my arm out the car window and knock on their front door.

Maybe its me and my bad luck....it never fails that in a 300 home subdivision, the only people that are out front are my comps? Talking on the phone, yard work, coming or going, etc. Never fails.

As for stealth mode, my Samsung has a zoom out function....works most of the time. You can take a Pic of the house next door, but you will still get the comp in the pic.

I've only been chased down twice in 20 years. I tell them to Google what appraisers do.

Some appraisers have magnetic signs that says real estate appraiser

I just stop and roll down window. I am bold. I say I am appraising a house around the corner and this one recently sold so I am using it as comparable and need a picture. Sometimes they just spill their guts about how much they love the house or they don't.

I am like okay. Thanks for sharing.

Your safer telling them what you are doing if they know you are taking a picture.

Sometimes you get way more info about the subject property than you bargained for.

I did have somebody chase me one time when I didn't tell them what I was doing. I stopped and was armed. I think it may have been drug house. I told him why I took picture and he was like okay, cool.

I am sure he was armed too. He was okay. When you tell them the house sold recently and you are appraiser and using as a comparable, it chills the waters.

Your better off telling them if they are in yard or whatever. Just say I need a picture because I am appraising house around corner and this one sold recently sold.

I say can you please step a little out of picture.

Tennessee has gun property rights where you can carry a gun in your car without a permit to carry. Just don't get out of car with it without a permit to carry.

Many States have much more liberal gun rights than Tennessee on right to carry.

Many residents of TN have permit to carry outside of a vehicle.

The man killed in Minnesota had carry permit outside his vehicle. He never drew the pistol. He didn't even attempt to draw the pistol.

Even with people, I would park and wait for opportune time for person to somehow go behind a car or something and quickly take photo.

Sometimes when I'm in the barrio and I'm taking comp photos, I hope people watching me don't think I'm ICE. If so, I'm so ashamed.

Some neighborhoods I have been in, they are more worried about me being DEA or part of a local drug task force. Always do those appraisals before noon

Lenders should pay you more (to go to these dangerous neighborhoods and) making you wake up and work so early.
