One upside is that there will no longer be any nonsense with Clients insisting that your report be on a particular form. There will only be one. As you work through writing the appraisal report using the software, it adds sections or removes them depending on the property type and the type of apprisal.

It remains to be seen how "pliable" the new "form" will be in terms of being able to create re-usable/clonable templates (that make life much easier with the 1004 forms).

I suspect part of reason that the form is being updated is the use of templates. Too many appraiser fail to customize their template to fit the property. At least for residential, appraisal reports are often full of boilerplate language that does not apply to the subject property. I don't know if the new form will be template friendly or not.

I have heard a lot of different reasons for updating the form from the people I know at the GSEs, but none of those reasons included the use of templates. In any case, there is no reason that appraisers will not be able to make templates using the new form.

True, but if the new form is truly adapted to mobile, quiklists may work

At this point... we just don't know. Appraisers will certainly be able to cut and paste languages they have stored. Whether we will be able to clone and old report or use a template remains to be seen.

Why would the appraisal forms software providers not provide the ability to clone reports and make templates? If one provider does and the others don't, then the one that does will have a huge competitive advantage so they are all likely to provide that functionality. FYI, the GSE specification for the new form does not have anything in it that would prevent the forms providers from providing the ability of cloning or the use of templates.

I said...."we just don't know".
