Underground propane tank?

Otis and I do see this from time to time, and I generally don't think it's a problem. But then, we're in New Mexico and it only rains 13 inches per year if we're lucky.

I notice you're in Alabama. Rust would be my concern. CB4 it is my vote.

It was common to bury them. New regs require them to be above ground. There is no real cost as the propane company will replace the tank with a new one, other than the monthly rental. Note it and truck on.
In Alabama health or safety issues require more active participation than just noting them. For instance, an exposed electrical wire that could be reached by a child(and other concerns) should be remedied as a requirement of the appraisal. FHA has many such requirements. I feel that the tank is a safety and possible health risk, but they appear more common than I thought and are currently being installed in my area.

Thanks for all the replies. I asked the forum before the local offices opened and found out that buried propane tanks are about as common as aerated above ground septic systems are in my area(which ain't many). Thanks again!
