I believe anything the government tells me. Didnt Barney Frank say fraudie and phoney were fine.

Raise your hand if anyone has asked you to participate in a survey as an appraiser, regarding employment or industry issues.

Where do they get these stats?

Gee ask an appraiser what would reduce the pressures of number hitting, withholdment of payment, turntime, and "other" pressures would make too much sense and would not fit into someones plan on making money. They have the AMCs dealing with such issues. Where do you think you live in a democracy.

Any good appraiser who is doing work for AMCs is "under employed."

You have that correct!
I received the "typical" call from an AMC today. This company was Service link. They wanted to know my fee and turn time, blaw, blaw! I gave the monkey my fee and turn time and she is checking to see if she can get the fee approved...........LOL..........and I am trying to build a spaceship to Mars!:new_all_coholic:

Sometimes I just say I do not accept AMC work and other times I quote just to see if things are improving. They are not! LOL:angry:

They cannot manage appraisers if they do not have any!:D

Good answer, who would the go to to get reports done?????

I just received another e-mail from a different AMC. "THEY ARE EXCITED TO ADD ME TO THEIR PANEL!" Now, I do not want to spoil their excitement but what would Garfield the cat say at a time like this?:new_all_coholic:

The way unemployment is calculated, people like appraisers don't show up in the unemployment records.

For the record.

"Some people think that to get these figures on unemployment, the Government uses the number of persons filing claims for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits under State or Federal Government programs. But some people are still jobless when their benefits run out, and many more are not eligible at all or delay or never apply for benefits. So, quite clearly, UI information cannot be used as a source for complete information on the number of unemployed.

"Other people think that the Government counts every unemployed person each month. To do this, every home in the country would have to be contacted—just as in the population census every 10 years. This procedure would cost way too much and take far too long. Besides, people would soon grow tired of having a census taker come to their homes every month, year after year, to ask about job-related activities.

"Each month, 2,200 highly trained and experienced Census Bureau employees interview persons in the 60,000 sample households for information on the labor force activities (jobholding and jobseeking) or non-labor force status of the members of these households during the survey reference week (usually the week that includes the 12th of the month).

i guess i am the minority in all of this - i have the same 3 clients that i have had for 10+ years and i've never worked with an AMC. like most i have had my slow times but i do (imho) well for myself just about every year. thanks to a 3 day special one of my clients was running november 2011 was my 3rd busiest month in 10+ years. i truly believe that if you produce a quality product in a timely fashion you should have no problem getting work, something i have achieved. this won't happen overnight and does take effort on the appraiser's part but it can be done.

i do get the occasional call from an AMC and when they ask my fee i turn it around and ask them what their average fee is. if they can't (or won't) answer me then i don't accept any orders. i refuse to sell out :)
