Thanks again to everyone that responded to my original thread about the USPAP exam. Unfortunately, I received my results yesterday and I did not pass the exam.

I called the school that I took the exam through to find out when I could retake the exam and they informed me I would have to wait to take the exam when they offered the next class, which is June 21st. I certainly don't want to wait more than a month to retake the exam.

I had read on this board and through other sources that most people retake their exams within a week or two at the most. It is also recommended as a time frame for memory retention. I realize I am at the mercy of the school to some degree. I am just looking to find out what seems to be the norm regarding retaking the exam. It just doesn't make any sense to wait a more than a month to retake the exam.

I wish I would have asked that question before choosing the school. Does anyone have any advice?

What other choice might you have in regards to approved providers in your state?

The Appraisal Institute offers an online 15-hr USPAP course (a new one starts today). You will probably take a computer-based exam at a Pearson Vue test center.

Check out both the Appraisal Institute site and the Pearson Vue site to locate a test center near you.

I would also make a quick call to your State Board to ensure that the AI online course and the Pearson Vue exam meet their requirements. Some states are funny about online education.

(Edit: According to the AI site, RI recognizes their online USPAP course. You can also enroll in a course that has already started and finish the class this weekend. If you take the AI online course, I would be interested in feedback from you comparing it to your previous course.)

(Edit: Actually, it looks like RI recognizes many AI online courses, including most, if not all, of your qualifying education courses. You may have noted that AI members get a decent discount on the courses. Did you know that annual membership for Trainee Associate Members is $95? The discount on the USPAP course is over half of that cost. Extra bonuses: AI is indisputably the best RE appraisal education provider and the online courses allow you to complete your education at your pace at your most convenient time.)

Gives you a good month to study to make sure you pass this time...

Trust me do yourself a favor and read and understand USPAP. I have over the course of 8 years read it at least 10 times. It is within arms length distance from my desk and I at least reference it once a week. This should be the most important book in your collection. USPAP, 4150.2 and updated ML's I research at least once a week.

Chart it out too. You'll see how similar the requirements are.
