Hello all. I was wondering if there was a website that shows who is VA approved? I am FHA approved and had turned in a VA application but was not sure where to check if I was ever approved or not. Any help would be great? Thanks!!!

Nothing to it! It only took me 12 (yes, twelve) years to get on the VA panel.

Yeah not even close to the same process as FHA, turning in your application puts you on the waiting list. It took me 5 years after my second application...get comfortable.

Only took me 7 years after I had 5 years experience and a veteran's preference.

You will know when you are approved...call from the regional office for an interview and a test.

I do not think there is a public list available for viewing, to answer the OP's question. Our RLC occasionally will email the panel members a current list for our state and region. (We have to know who others in the area are since we have to "cover" for one another in times of vacation and illness and whatnot...)

And yes, it takes a while to "get on" the VA panel. They are not unlimited in size like FHA and other organizations. If the market you're in is already fully staffed with VA panel appraisers, someone will have to retire, be removed by the VA, or die in order to make room on the list for a new appointee. OR, the market can pick up to where the VA thinks more appraisers are needed to make/keep turn times reasonable - but that is unlikely for a while yet I think, but I am not in your market and cannot say 100%.

I sometimes say I got lucky by getting on the list after such a short wait (2½-3 years) but it wasn't so lucky for the 3 guys that passed away in the 18 months preceding my appointment that made it possible. Of course, then they decided to open the flood gates and increase the panel by 20% nationwide a few years ago to head off a proposed bill to "open up" the VA panel ala FHA. It was a really smart move on VA's part to protect the integrity of the VA Loan Program, but has made it next to impossible for anyone new to get appointed of late.
