VA Fee Panel

Thanks everyone. I am in the Atlanta region. They sent me the guide for review. Mike, I applied about 2 years ago and finally got put on the list. I actually couldn't believe it. Still can't. I am in Charleston, SC and we have lots of VA loans. Several of my clients asked me several times to really pursue getting put on the list. I am not sure if anyone nominated me or not. It looks like I have quite a bit of studying to do to learn all of the language, etc... I will email or pm those that offered their help! I appreciate it very much. I need to get caught up on all of this other work before I "log on".

Mike-

I have been appraising since 1993 FYI. Began right out of college.

I am sure you will do a good job and you have the experience necessary to be a good VA appraiser. We are seeing more and more appraisers with the minimum experience level being added to the panel here. I had 13 years experience and waited 7 years to get on the panel back in 93.

My sister married an Air Force Academy grad who went on to be an aircraft commander on 141s and was stationed at Charleston AFB. I visited them several times back in the late 60s. They lived in Summerville. I was amazed at how inexpensive all brick homes were back then. My little niece and nephew talked about all the "sick" trees (moss). I also remember the damage to the paint on cars caused by the wood pulp processing plants.

Many fond memories of the area including lots of golf and walks on the beaches. I taught a couple of the air force officers how to catch crabs off the bridges over the tidal waters. In return they brought me wine from Portugal as the Azores was one of their stops. Old Charleston was very interesting too. About the only thing I missed was a tour of the naval base.

If I can be of assistance, feel free to pm me. I wish you well

i'm a navy vet and applied many many years ago, but didn't get on the list. not many VA loans out here in orange county due to high price range.

also, you would think that the VA would have less impact now because most conventional lenders offer 100% financing now. they even offer stated income 100% loans.

I went to my yearly VA meeting today and they expressed a desire for us to start using the new forms immediately. Except the 1004C, which does not make sense to me. That form is most needed and relevent of all the new forms.

Congrats on VA approval, hope it works out for you.

Been on VA panel for 15 years, it WAS good work.

The whining "wanabes" claimed unfair, so panel is open to anyone. Took me eight years to qualify, I guess it's wide open now. I remember how this affected FHA, they have never recovered. I hate to see this happen to our veterans.

I wish VA well for the vets, was a platinum client, I think it has gone the way of FHA. Staff has been cut, service to veteran has gone down. The staff was excellent to work with. They WERE doing it the right way. It was the last of the good residential clients (those that wanted real estimates).

Fees haven't raised since I started but all other requirements have, quality of lenders has gone down (Mtg. Bkr -No pay - all hassle). New forms, no say on fee, VA has become another AMC.

Maybe get 3 -4 assignments a year since panel addition, time to move on.

I think a lot of real good, old school residential appraisers will find other clients and the veterans will be the loser.

Most of my present work is high end residential, agricultural, commercial and eminent domain, where the "wanabes" appraisers fear to go.

Lotsa luck with your new client

I was put on the panel in 1993. The good ole days were starting to come to a close by then.

The V.A. is now "kinder and gentler". We've been told to call the Realtors involved if our Opinion of Value is lower than the Contract Price. Just a little extra effort here to get that Veteran in his house. Never mind Standards. The V.A. doesn't want any waves because they are so under staffed.

So far, I have not found VA to be as you state.....I have been treated with respect from the VA reviewers as well as all of the lenders. Payment has been prompt.

I do feel the fee for LIQ appraisals is low but the fee for 1004 is similar to what is typically charged in this market.

It behooves the new guard to hear the opinions of the old guard, at the changing of the guard.

Vets know what I mean, new guards will learn with time and perspective. I'm sure it seems a lot better than previous work and clients, thats your perspective. My perspective is different.

I wish you well with your new client (s).
