Well Answers but Not What I Hoped

I’m sorry to hear about your eyes and hope the situation improves. I had two cataracts removed a few years ago, and I couldn’t believe the difference it made—I can drive at night again! It sucks to get old. I had a hearing test last week, and the doctor said my hearing is excellent, so I don’t need to come back for another 10 years. I seriously doubt I’ll still be around at 83, so I didn’t make an appointment.

I had one of my eyes done about five years ago, and it helped, but now my night vision has started to suck.

Decided to go ahead and have the surgery...after I finish my nightmare assignment - not one but 2 funeral homes. Sounds like an income problem to me... now to estimate a cap rate - I found one sale with income info.

I had both eyes done on cataracts with a really good surgeon. I was very near sighted in both eyes before the cataracts started several years ago. It got to when I was driving at night, the headlights would blind me and look big and blurry. So, he did one eye and told him I wanted to be farsighted on that one. He said okay. About 2 years later the other one got real bad and he said okay we need to do it too. I said I want to be near sighted in it. He said okay.

I have had diabetes for 46 years. No other diabetic complications in the eyes. I can see perfect far off in one eye and perfect up close in the other. He said it drives some people crazy and said I go back and change it or give you glasses if it bothers you. It don't bother me. Just had eyes checked again a few months ago with the same group that specializes with diabetics. He said it is amazing you don't have other problems in your eyes as long as you have had diabetes.

When is this assignment due? I a on vacation thru this weekend. I will be back in the office next week Monday.

I am friends with a guy who sold one funeral home about 8 years ago and another last December. These were small town homes located about 30 miles apart. Located in similar sized adjoining Counties, each having one nearby competitor and one competitor located in a small community near by. Each home was pretty good size and were built when the last 15+/- years. The older sale was $1,000,000 and the more recent one was $1,250,000. The buyer of the most recent sale has probably purchased 5 to 7 funeral homes over the last 10 years or so in northwestern and western Michigan in both small towns and larger homes.

If you want I can try to get more information on the two local sales and the put you directly in touch with the buyer of multiple homes. What I would do is talk with him and see if he would be willing to talk to you. I would stay out of the conversation and hopefully with you being as far away as you are he would open up to you. I can also do some research on each of the sales and dig into my files as I have appraised probably 7 funeral homes in the last 10+ years.

When it comes to eye issues and overnight loss of sight, you might ask them about the possibility of having a stroke in your eye. I had never heard of it until a friend of mine lost his site in one eye basically overnight. The doctors explained it was caused by a stroke in the eye and there was less than 5% chance of experiencing one in the other eye. Well he fell into the 5% category about two months later. Now can only see light and dark and some shapes. He was just 60.

Diabetes can do all kinds of damage to eyes. One of leading causes of blindness.

They said that was not an issue, nor glaucoma nor any diabetes related issues.

Probably no rush then. Even with cataract surgery, you recover pretty quick. You need to be careful on what else you book.

Would they extend your turn time on the assignments you have?

I drove myself home after the surgery. You have to keep the eye drops in it a few days. They give you antibiotic and some kind of lubricating drops.

I think it has to be covered with a patch for a certain amount of time.
