What are the benefits of creating an Appraisal Management Company?

I don't care what happens to the AMCs. The ones that can figure how to sell what they do to the lenders might get by and the ones that can't keep up with their competition might fail. Same as happens with the lenders themselves. Same as what happens with the appraisers.

This will be my 3rd entire RE cycle, each of which has demonstrated that just surviving the downturn of the cycle should be considered indicative of a successful plan.

I don’t think those people are bitter, they just became AMCs or found another industry to ply their malfeasance.

No, the ones most bitter are those that spent thousands per year creating a brand, grew their business by genuinely training staff, had actual QC protocols, and delivered a quality product to the public.

In short, those working to improve the image of appraisers. Instead we got AMCs that pushed the image into the basement.
John what image are you talking about ? I got in 1980 at 24 years old and also owned a small real estate office. The appraisers image unless they worked. Inside a bank was not good and presented a bad image to the public. I know in So Ca you can dress casual but old guys in shirts and flip flops killed any image of a professional business.

I got in at 23 in 1984. Completely different experience for me in the Bay Area. Professionalism got you business with all the small local lenders and the mortgage brokers (who were seasoned ex-S&L loan agents). Slacks and a collared shirt for most appointments were required by staff. Always hand out a business card upon arrival at the subject with a goal of showing up 5 minutes early. I even printed my reports on heavy gray stock until pdf came along. I’ve never seen an appraiser in flip flops and hope I never do.

I have unfortunately. Shorts and flip flops on some appraisers. I don't know how they do it. I get jabbed by bushes through my pants and had nails jab through my shoes. Not to mention the filth in some houses and back yards. I have also had to dig shoe out of mud after days of rain or at new home construction. There is no way I would not wear pants and shoes on any site. Even vacant lots have their surprises.
