I love the 100' tape measure for outside. What do ya'll prefer for interior?

Stick a 66' tape in it, replace the hook with a rigid 6" insulated ground wire and it will rest on downspouts. And it comes back to you effortlessly.

you can have my disto when you pry it out of my cold dead hands. once you become proficient in it's use you will never go back. i carried a tape measure for 4 months when i first got my disto "just in case" but no longer. now i just keep a pack of batteries in the car.

I use a Disto and my 100' tape measure. There are just some walls that the Disto cannot do.

I was trained with the tape measure, but walking a lengthy wall only to have the smart end of the tape fall off the corner every time was frustrating. Been using the same Stanley FatMax for over 10 years. Every now and then I find that the power button has been excessively pressed against my clipboard so I make sure I carry extra batteries. It was $99 back then at Home Depot.

2) I'm getting forgetful in my older days and I'm afraid of leaving behind an expensive device - I can afford the $15 - $20 hit if I forget my tape measure.

I use a work belt attachment that allows me to carry my disto,100' tape and camera to free my hands, have my tools readily available and not lose them. All the pockets are easy slide in access to remove/replace any of the three items. You need to ensure the attachment pockets fit your tools, are easy access and not bulky. I use an oversized belt on the attachment which allows me to put it over whatever I'm wearing and store in the vehicle when unneeded.

I also mounted a cell phone clip on the back of my clipboard so I can hook the clipboard on my pants/belt/work belt attachment to free my hands.

Having your hands free comes in handy when you're fighting your way thru the bushes or other crap.

The Fat Max is a great option. Excellent tool, especially given the price point. I preferred the Disto because of the "sight glass" but the cost difference is significant.

I'm 34 and prefer my 100' vinyl tape measure ... approx. $17 at Sears. I know I'm old school, but I'm also a creature of habit and that's the way I trained.
.... also I'm colorblind and have a hard time seeing the "dot" at the end of a "disto"

Same here. I am not color blind but cannot believe that a disto will measure Bay Windows, unusual angles, and many other things I encounter such as open foyers with a stairwell. I use a Lufkin and it is in metric so it automatically tells me if it is 1.5, 1.8, etc. And, in a very contemporay home, the 2nd floor frequently has odd angles, a cross over from 1 side to the other, and irregular open space.
