I am lucky that I am 2 blocks from my local Junior College. One real estate related class or Excel class of 3.0 units = 54 hours. So 18 weeks of class once a week for three hours all for around $150 depending on the cost of the required book.

The best classes are appraisal institute if you need to learn, if you just want to renew the online classes are fine. You will find they don't like fast learners and will slow down the process; which can be a little boring if you have a faster mind.

Is it just me, or does it end up taking longer to complete the online class than it would if you attended a live class? I've found on more than one occasion that a 7 hour online class can easily end up taking me actually 8 hours to complete. I see that as one of the advantages of taking a live class - you put in your 8 hour day (including lunch hour and breaks) and you're out the door with a certificate.

thats odd i see the exact opposite in my case. i blow through an entire "appraising in the modern world" lol online class in minutes. blow through the quizzes then reach the end of the module frequently in under 10 minutes. then i have to hit refresh every 15 minutes for 8 hours and pass the exam. i find it silly actually.

An hour or so more of time is worth the convenience to me of being able to do coursework at my own pace. To log on do one hour or five hours and pick up where I left off. And I don't mind actually having to read the material and answer the questions especially when there are USPAP changes vs the distractions of appraisers watching their cell phones or an instructor droning on about their personal experiences or telling wacky jokes to keep the classes interest.

The quality of appraisal education materials varies widely between providers. The quality of appraiser instructors varies widely, as well: some are outstanding, some just awful, most fair to mediocre.

Dave Reinhold is as good as I know. John Widdoss right up there...regardless who they are teaching for

I think that Terrel makes a good point. You can have a fantastic instructor at a Podunk school and have a terrible instructor at a terrific school. Remember though that instructors have good days and bad days and tend to improve over time to a point that they tend to wane overtime just like neighborhoods. Ha, the lifecycle of an instructor just like the lifecycle of a neighborhood perhaps?

That said, I have certainly enjoyed the education I have received from the AI, far above all others and will continue taking my classes there unless there is a specific class I want to take which is not offered through them.

How did I guess that you might complete your appraisal education 3X as fast as the next appraiser?
