Let's see...an appraiser starts out around here lucky to make $15,000 or $20,000 gross for the year.
Yikes! That's REALLY bad! Even in 1988 when I started, I made more than that. About the pharmacist.......surely they have college loans to pay off for awhile, I would think.

Can't be my state. Don't come here. Beginning appraisers are willing to pay someone to train them.

It's all about supply and demand. Thousands of appraiser chasing few jobs, like we have here, means low wages for those without skills.

Yes they do. And, I have a good friend who started at Walgreens about 10-11 years ago. He was a "relief pitcher" in Milwaukee, which meant he worked odd hours covering any shift that needed covering. He might work over night, followed by a late morning/early afternoon start. He also didn't make close to 100K, though it was some time ago. I'm not sure he makes that (or more) now, though I would guess that is in the ballpark. Chicago may have more demand than supply, but that certainly isn't a universal Walgreens starting salary.

He certainly had to have more schooling (read: costs and time) than an appraiser needs, even under the 2008 rules.

My previous Career was as a recruiter. Nurses, mostly. We had a division in the company that hired temp pharmacists for places like Eckerd, etc. We paid them $80/hour.

Did a stint with Blue Cross (the insurance company) as a corporate recruiter as well. When I was there, I brought Pharmacists just out of school on at $80k/yr. Once they had 5+ yrs under their belt, particularly in a hospital setting... the sky was the limit for salary.

The thing to remember about getting a job as a pharmacist though, is that pesky medical degree.

I wouldn't (and wasn't) arguing that pharmacists don't make more than appraisers. I hope a person in charge of medications makes more than an appraiser. But, 80K is not 100K, and I am guessing that there are definite geographical differences. Say, between Philadelphia (or Chicago) and Milwaukee and the Madison area (where my friend now works). I would suspect that in this area, where there is a large Pharmacy school at the UW and not that many positions locally available, supply keeps the dollars a little lower.

(I also am acquainted with a pharmacist who works the late shift (over-night) at a hospital, and has for years. He makes a LOT of money, which is why he stays in that situation. (good for him)

Don't come to Indiana. I have worked my arse off marketing my company to make 15-25K/yr for the last 3 yrs. Woo Hoo!

Sorry Michael,

Was not trying to argue. Was supporting your statement is all.
