What are you doing to market your services and what markets are responding best?

Nothing beats face to face, a handshake, and personal referrals. Go Celtic.

The best marketing I have done so far.

Was filling out the application at the local Assessor's office and doing fee appraisal as my second job...not my first.

I agree with Mike. on the way to an assignment, if you have one; look not just front and back' look left and right for places to stop in for a quick contact. Let them know you are on the way to an assignment. Just asked if you can stop back by later to talk in depth. My favorite if they will have time on way back after appointment, Asked if you could bring them a cup of coffee or coke when you come back by. Now is the time to stop were you have not stopped before.

What is the niche that you have that either nobody else, or very few others have? Next, market to the client that needs that service.

you have to do it the old fashioned way! knock on doors, cold calls, canvass your niche. good luck! stay positive!

This guy in not in the Banking/Mortgage Industry, he sells business leads/lists.

I get a few orders a week by ranking top in the search engines for my city. "san diego appraiser" or "san diego appraisal". I now target "san diego FHA appraiser" as well. Make it easy to find your website, get top listed and at least you will get some work. With how slow it is here, each order helps.
