If, you were charged with resolving the current economic crisis, what would you do? I am a newbie, I ask this question because I've been reading this forum for about a month or two and I haven't seen this question asked before? I've read quite a bit about the problems and the lack of responsibilty by our politicans, but I haven't read anything about a responsible solution. To provoke further thought on this question, I propose repealing the 1986 Tax Reform Act, or at the least the part that deals with passive investors. This is just a thought, what do you think! :new_newbie:

At the present time I would copy FDR's programs with a few small changes or add too's.

Bring back manufacturing to this country. Deport non-citizens. Give more decision making to the states. Cut welfare making it a requirement if you got a federal check or state check, you had to be at work for the state or federal goverment. No work, no pay go find another country to live in.

I Agree

Ray, I completely agree with you. Maybe if enough of us were to fill in your name for President..........Anyway, I know you must be a decent guy seeing you're from Wisconsin. I was born in Rhinelander in 1946. It was a great place to grow up back then. I've got the best childhood memories anyone could ask for.

A - I assume you refer to only healthy people and B - I assume you dont' wish to the dead weight of bureacracy that gives us road repair crews that use shovels for canes to lean on, cannot grade a road because they were never trained how to run the equipment, or, people who sit yakking to co-workers while ignoring people waiting endless hours at the DMV for their car tags. The last thing I want is another bunch of arrogant incompetents for me to deal with in government.

The problem is the whole system is self-serving. Companies preaching free enterprise think nothing of taking millions from the government as "incentives" to put a service center or factory in their state. To wit, Google's new complex in Oklahoma will make a lot of jobs but at a high cost to the state. Arkansas just landed HP for a town that is already growing quite well, thank you, at a cost to Arkansas taxpayers of $220 million AND the state will help incoming HP executives find jobs for their wives...why not hire them some illegals to clean their house? mow the lawn? procure hookers for them?
Ban all states from provide such incentives. If HP wants to take the plant to Tiawan, let them. Slap an import tax on them then. Go to a flat tax that treats corporations and individuals alike. Examine all "licenses" like ours for its usefulness and stop regulating everything from interior decorators to appraisers. Abolish administrative laws and hire more judges to do what the constitution demanded in the first place. Loser pay tort reform. If you get sued and win the loser should have to pay your legal bills which should be capped at 15% of the settlement.
Recognize that Greenspan was the worst sort of Fed chair. Like those before Volcker he thought he could regulate the markets by yo-yoing the discount rate. Volcker recognized that regulating the money supply while requiring higher margins (he raised reserve margins to 8%) stopped inflation. Return to regulated banks. The firewall between investment banks and commercial banks needs restored (but that is a closing of barn door after the horse is out problem). Stop brokerage houses from operating as "banks". All lenders should be regulated. Abolish the commission based mortgage broker business.
To get fuel prices down, raise CAFE rates by 50% - 10% per year, open up off shore drilling, ANWR, and the Shale Oil reserves on the Roan Cliffs. Drop the super low sulfer diesel fuel requirement. I am constantly asked by diesel runs MORE than gasoline. DUH! Super low sulpher diesel costs more to refine than gasoline. They make a diesel motor for Wranglers, and many other vehicles which are all exported because they cannot meet the super low sulphur requirement. Low sulfer fuels are still in use overseas even in countries that are supposed to be "green" countries. They are not stupid enough to shoot themselves in the foot.
The appraiser should be treated as a law officer. Anyone pushing or pressuring an appraiser should be considered a criminal and any Realtor or banker should go to jail on the first offense. Likewise, any appraiser who kowtows to a lender ought be sent to jail.
Those would reverse the path we are on. The path will run its course and its not going to be a smooth ride I fear. The worst since the depression without a doubt.

Seriously, if I knew the 100% solution I would not have to do appraisals to supplement my retirement income. It is a very complicated issue.

However, the first thing I would do is end the war in Iraq, saturate the border between Pakistan and Afganistan with constant bombing for about a month straight, 24 hours a day, then send in coalition troops to literally, mop up.

I would warn Iran and any other country who thinks they want to build atomic bombs that the first one(country)that demonstrates they have "the bomb" should be prepared to be totally destroyed. No troops, just constant bombing until all their buildings and infrastructure is wiped out.

Then I would proceed to rebuild the US infrastructure.....bridges, dams, more new dams for water storage and flood protection, update the highways, re-fund the public education system. I would fund each state a billion dollars per year to create water systems, city and state highways, juice up police departments. Then I would fund another billion dollars a year to be used by each state for alternative energy creation subsidies.

I would eliminate personal income taxes, eliminate "free trade," and charge significant fees on imports, create a mandatory and very high tax/fee for every US company that wanted to change their manufacturing to an outside country.

I would require the oil companies to utilize 15% of their gross revenue for drilling on lands where they have existing leases...on and off shore. I would demand truth in advertising and in political statements. AND, since this is all fantasy........................Demand that ANY property transfer or refinance require a 1004 appraisal report, ordered by an agency of HUD on a rotation basis with a standard fee of $500 to be paid in advance by the beneficiary of the report. Commercial/industrial and more than 2 unit residential properties excluded from that fee schedule and to be settled by agreement.

I forgot one thing: ANY member of a street gang shall be arrested and summarily judged to be a criminal. Sentencing would be some uninhabited island in any ocean to fend for themselves. 5 years minimum sentence....if they survive. 2nd offense would be for life.

I just read Terrel's response. We should combine them!

I would recommend resigning immediately, because you're just being setup to take the fall as a scapegoat. :peace:
