What's up with the NC Appraisal Board?

The state boards should stop that nonsense and not let the schools advertise and teach an OLD version when the NEW version is available.

AGREE: AND where I personally contacted the CE Rep' and where the Rep' with NO hesitation indicated it was "current".
Where their use of that word, current IS IN FACT outdated & not applicable to 2022-23.
Didn't Trust & decided to get real-clarity... from this Thread, thank you!

Edited:::: NOT USPAP :: : another frustrating online CE event: took the 8 hour class & found out afterwards THE SAME Course NAME was also used for a 4 hour class with a not-noticed & slightly different course # ...that was approved. The 8 Hour one WASN'T. Round-and-round to the end...the Rep then indicated the 8 hour zoom course was going to be submitted for approval BUT at the time I completed ...wasn't. So, I had to pay the extra, fill out the Form, & submit the CE Course Completion Form to the State for approval. BS, that initial Rep' made me feel like I was stupid for asking questions BECAUSE I did check "approved CE by the State" prior to signing up.
FIX: There should be a Definite Difference in "Naming a Course" but Online CE-Folks could care less $$$$.

Later: on their site had added a disclosure "Make sure the class you choose is approved by your State". LOL...thought I did!

Every CE class has to be approved with the NCAB, I would be amazed if they would let them have TWO USPAP versions at the same time. Also, we have to take the USPAP update before May 31 in the odd numbered years. Either Tom Lewis or Don Rogers could answer these questions. The current list does not show ANY schools currently approved to teach USPAP in NC. There is a list of schools but no approvals. http://ncappraisalboard.org/education/USPAPupdate.htm

Clarity: there were NOT 2 USPAP versions. It was another CE that had the same name: 4 hour WAS approved, 8 hour was NOT. And I did check with the board-listings prior; however, unlucky -the version I DID take was not approved (8-hours) BUT the CE Rep' emphatically stated (LOL) it WAS.
Point: BE very sure Same Name Courses are in fact THE ONE you need for CE.

Unless it is the OFFICIAL USPAP course or the UPDATE

Thanks GOT IT!
Clarifying: The courses I were referring to in the Post was NOT the USPAP course at all.
CE Course ...Specifically: "Appraisers Guide to Supporting......"

What a complicated mess we have made of the appraisal business.

they are baked into all our state laws.
ASC, TAF et al seems to think that the states can turn on a dime. Our ledge meets annually, but 1 session is for finance, and laws are passed in the other. Without their approval the board is helpless to change the law. It would take a special session, which we are in right now but SS's are to address specific issues. I see no reason why TAF didn't go ahead and issue when they should have. Now a bunch of states are out of sync with 2 and 3 year licenses, and we normally have USPAP classes in the last six months of our license. with this we end up taking USPAP 2 years in a row to get back on track...and do so 1½ years out of sync with the license.

The 'sync' between new versions of USPAP and licensing cyles and CE cycles was not planned on a national level. It just happened that way. Each state determines its own license renewal cycle. I hold appraiser credentials in four states and none of them sync. NC & SC both expire at the end of June, but SC renewal is every other year. My GA credential in August. My NY credential expires in February. The next version of USPAP is open ended. Instead of being the 2022-2023 USPAP, it will just be dated for one year. It is likely to remain in effect for multiple years. There will be a new version as the need arises. We will get at least one year notice of a new edition.

BTW - The new USPAP National Update class will have 90 minutes about bias. The rest will be about how to use the USPAP publication to find the solution to a question or appraisal problem.
