The classic white kitchen—something that seems all too timeless to ever waver in popularity—has fallen down the ranks of favorite kitchen paint colors. Not only that, buyers actually reported that they would pay $612 less for a home that has a white kitchen.

Gray is pushing white out of the spotlight and winning over the hearts of prospective buyers. According to the Zillow study, homes with a deep graphite gray kitchen can sell for an estimated $2,512 more than similar homes, while a mid-tone pewter gray kitchen can command $2,553 more than expected. The preference is consistent across other rooms as well, with dark gray outperforming pale neutrals in the living room and bedroom, with the potential to command offers of at least $1,755 more.

white kitchens were the craze of every rehab done in the last 10 years. i think millenials must have liked them. personally, i get tired of seeing white walls & kitchens. dark wood floors were popular for a short while. people didn't realize that dust shows real well on dark floors. that craze stopped.

FNMA did a study on how to consistently sell REO's to maximize selling price within a consistent exposure time plus minimizing Cost. The Goal was expose the property to the widest range of buyers. So for interior walls they use flat White in all rooms. Again this proved to be the a kind of sweet spot,

Fernando I don't care what Zillow says. Zillow has helped RE Agents expose their listings to a wider range of potential buyers. Where in the Past Realtors relied on local advertising and referrals from Realtors in other areas for out of town buyer. Zillow has replaced that network.

In my appraisal assignments I list Zillow as a source along with MLS for the subject sale and listing history.

Then again Zillow may be on to something.

What is the most popular wall color to sell a house?

Best Paint Colors for Selling in 2022

White and off-white can both make a home look fresh, clean, and new regardless of age,” the study says. “These colors have nearly universal appeal, helping improve the curb appeal of a home and making it more likely to sell in a timely way

Funny that they don't mention a price range. The median home price in the U.S. as of 1st quarter 2023 was $436,000. So we are talking differences of around 0.5% or less. Must be using Bert's magic MARS software

The magazines that cater to home decor (i.e.- women readers) feature the soup de jour of style and buyers (women often have the final say on the house) are swayed by the whims of the times. Avocado Green, Harvest Gold, and in the mid-90s a brief flirtation with black appliances. When I bought a fridge there were virtually no beige available - everything was white or stainless steel. Same with cabinets. The country kitchen, painted. The stained oak, the knotty pine, birch, colored vs white, and if you keep it long enough, it's back in style.

There has been many a cabinet and perfectly working appliance replaced just to keep in style...and that is invariably the whim of a woman. The man couldn't give a **** the color so long as it works.

In this area all of the custom homes are black/white/gray. What sort of a simple minded owner must it take to have such an unimaginative color scheme. Oh, yeah, the flooring is all gray wood laminate. Where's the emoji for Puke?

Way too many TV decorating 'ideas'.

As Charlie Daniels said,

Well blue is my color
It is on my wall yes
13 is my number
Oh locked on my little name
