White Kitchens Can Actually Hurt Your Home Sale Price, According to Zillow

Toss it on there. The rain won't hurt it, it'll seep it into the soil. If you don't do it, Summer's too late.
I did it! I did the first dose early spring when it got hot. This stuff seems to be more about insects than weed and feed. I'm going back to the regular stuff next time.

white is a neutral color which i understand for the younger crowd when you list a home. i do like it when they accent a wall somewhere with a color. i have maple flooring in the living room, din rm & i used maple cabinets in the kitchen to match the flow. walls are full of different colors, but it all matches, wife is an artist. good sense of color schemes. i live in big city row homes, so it all depends on the sun lighting certain parts of the house.

white kitchens were the craze of every rehab done in the last 10 years. i think millenials must have liked them. personally, i get tired of seeing white walls & kitchens. dark wood floors were popular for a short while. people didn't realize that dust shows real well on dark floors. that craze stopped.
I thought the dark wood floors were very pretty until I complimented a homeowner on them and she they were an absolute nightmare because of dust and pet fur showing up so much. Now I notice she was right.

During the great recession, I picked up a batch of Brazilian Cherry wood engineered flooring for pennies on the dollar from a store closing their business. I floored the whole house with the exception of the kitchen, dining and bath areas. Glued to the slab downstairs, nailed the upstairs. The flooring is beautiful.....the problem for me, more so then the dust and pet fur, is that when you look at it.....it scratches. If I were to do it again, I'd put down the vinyl plank flooring. You can play street hockey on it and it doesn't scratch. No, it doesn't look like the natural wood flooring, but the scratch resistance and easy maintenance for me as I get older....is the way to go.

Yeah, people with kids and dogs that vinyl plank makes sense. My house has early 90s real hardwood on a subfloor, but our old house, we installed the "Gunstock" color wood laminate and it would scratch every time my Husky trotted through with the claws. I forgot about that. This floor was all scratched up when we got it, I've buffed and polished it by hand before which improved it somewhat. I'll need a new HVAC before I get to do anything else.

When I worked in Door County white kitchens were the craze from 2010-2020. In fact the weirdest home I appraised was nearly all white. White siding, white windows, white flooring (including the wood!), etc. It was awful. And was a 1.5 million build. The only other color in that house was black. That changed the last few years I appraised there. People were going back to darker cabinets and grays and blues started to take over.

In the area I live now, it is a resoundingly much different crowd. Dark colors are king. White is seldom used on the new construction that I do. Interestingly when my wife and I built our new house in 2020 she chose black stained. She loves them. She hates white. I have learned after 46 years of marriage happy wife is a happy life. I don’t argue colors. I know my place. And I have seen quite a few houses with black cabinets and black windows.

Wait a few years and things will change.

From a practical standpoint white gets dirty fast. I have seen lots of homes with white trim and kids. Not a good combination.

And as far as flooring, my wife loves our Vinyl Plank wood look. Very easy to clean. And incredibly durable.

big dog with longer nails is like a coarse sand paper. you need to really trim the nails short. as far as wood floors, a hard shellac or hard polyurethane coating is required. another problem is that the glossier it is the more the scratches will show. a semi gloss vinly planking which has a great color variety would solve that problem. solid colors show more mistakes.
