Who Covers Scottsdale?

James moved to Pinal County but it is close enough that I am sure he covers Scottsdale.

I live in the East Valley (where Scottsdale is located) and could provide you with a few names of good appraisers. PM me some contact info and I will forward a few names.

I can vouch for James Sturm. PM me if you still need someone and I will give him a call.

The name is certainly familiar. There was an ILL guy on this forum who had a website that basically promised 'to make the value' for lenders. He eventually changed it. I can't recall the name of the person off hand, so I'm suspect using someone from ILL who I don't otherwise know.

Pat it is not very professional to make comments such as above. I never had a web site. I probably lost more clients than any single appraiser has due to not making value but rather market value. It has always been my policy to send clients to "WALGREEN'S) when they need a number. It is not my job to make value. However, it is my job to provide an supportable opinion of value whether it is at or below contract price (very rarely will I opinion value higher than contract price). Most work I was performing prior to moving my practice to Arizona, was quality assurance consisting of retrospective reviews with effective dates from 2004 to about 2008. These reviews were primarily for quality assurance as well as for buy-back demands. I am now semi-retired and have a very limited market area which does not include Scottsdale. However, I would entertain the idea of appraising a property there if the fee is right. One must understand that the "VALLEY" is 100+ miles wide and therefore, one must cut out a territority and become the professional go to guy for that area. I reside in the city of Maricopa which most of my work occurrs. Once in a while I venture out to Casa Grande or the southern portion of Maricopa County (south of the 202).

James- I'm sorry if you though I was implying directly that it was you. I've never had a need to make a referral to someone in Illinois who I didn't know. That's why I made that comment. I didn't mean to imply that it was you.

There's was a guy who hung around the Illinois forum of this website who did indeed such a website. He changed his tune after people started referencing his website because his 'tactics' were so obvious. EDIT- found him https://web.archive.org/web/20041011035032/http://www.adeptappraisal.com/About_precomp.htm

He too was licensed in Arizona.

So I was generically talking about the fact that I won't refer to other appraisers in/from Illinois who I didn't know because I never want to end up with that guy whose name I couldn't remember until I just found him.

Incidentally, my family spent a night at the Marriott Residence Inn in Scottsdale last year. The weather was beautiful when we were there and we even had the luxury of having a scorpion in our hotel bedroom :)
