A good friend of mine has a time share in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and needs to have it appraised (he's donating it a local the hospital). He asked if I could appraise it and I said no, but I'd do a little research and get back to him.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions on getting some pertinent information regarding qualified appraisers that work that area? I found one firm out of Texas <http://www.reappraiser.com/> but thought I'd see if any of you may have some info or personal experience in finding a competent appraiser in that area. Any info that you may have would be helpful.

Thanks!

Doug

No, but if you'll send me the keys and let me check it out for a week or two this winter, I'll be glad to make a stab at it..... :)

I appraised some tequila in Tijuana once. I gave it a high opinion of value to begin with. The next day I decided to revise my report and lower the opinion of value greatly.

Brilliant, Jason!

Worthy of the legendary Bobby Bucks.

I would think a time share in Mexico is about as valuable as a condo in North Korea. Can't for the life of me understand why anyone, in their right mind, would invest in that country!

That's a big 10-4 there....

Mike Garrett. Our church just finished up a missions trip to Guadalajara (we have 6 physicians in our congregation as well as a couple of phd pharmacists and some folks in the construction trade so our mission trips actually accomplish something, I have not gone however.) Universal consensus of those mission trip members is that most of Mexico is a craphole--truly deplorable living conditions for the average Mexican (except for the drug dealers, who live pretty good). Also, Mexico City has a big problem with robbery kidnappings (you won't hear much from our State Department on this though, hmmmmm) in that well to do residents and some tourists are routinely kidnapped and returned only after a considerable ransom is paid.

We are blessed/fortunate to live in America. (If you live in a single wide trailer that has heat and window a/c, you have a car, a stereo and a tv, and your plumbing works, you are better off than 75% of the rest of the world's population)

Thank you..and I totally concur. We should be very thankful for the blessings bestowed on this country.

My parents wintered in Mexico for a number of years. I have flown down there on a couple of occasions and enjoyed the experience. Would love to do a bass fishing trip but have been told it's necessary to have armed guards for the drive to the lakes.

My comments are about Americans owning real estate in a foreign country that can nationalize that real estate at any time. Risky...at best.

There are Appraisers in Mexico and it also has a thriving real estate business, I have seen the big real estate boys down their marketing their services. If you contact them I am sure they may have some contacts or help you with your needs.

Mike I would argue with your statements and I would be glad to show you a whole different side of Mexico, luxurious honest high life. It is not perfect, which country is? but it is not a craphole or full of well to do drug dealers only. My family is a hard working educated middle class, that does just as much or more than most missionaries. Missionaries can get up an go and say that they did the lords work and feel fuzzy and warm about it. My family is still there and trying to make a difference an have. Plus, most missionaries always gravitate to the crapholes.

Also, I have come across listing in my Local MLS for Mexican properties. And if I am correct the American citizen can buy land now in Mexico.

I know very little about Mexican real estate, but I have done a little reading. I believe there are restrictions on foreigners buying real estate on or near water.
