Why All Caps?

Like a lot of the "old guys", for the first 13 years in this business I had "the girl" type my reports. My guess is was just easier using the IBM Selectric to keep everything in CAPS. It wasn't until I typed my own reports that I stopped that practice. Some guys still do it out of habit, no doubt.

I would think referring to the female in the office as “the girl” would date an appraiser as an “old guy” faster than typing in all caps.:rof::rof:

I Use All Caps In All Of My Appraisals And It Was Because My "boss" And Several Of His Lenders Said They Were Tired Of Us Not Capitalizing Correctly. This Obviously Stops This Little Problem. I Was Called Into The Office For Typing The Word Realtor In All Lower Caps..silly Me..got A Raise And Now My Caps Lock Is Stuck On, Or Maybe It's A Habit..i Do Use A Smaller Font Though...

FRANKLY I THINK IT'S UNPROFESSIONAL

Frankly I think it's unprofessional.

See you can get more words on a page.

Typing in all caps is a sign of a hunt and peck typist......and the sign of a form filler.

I have a hard time reading and reviewing all caps but I guess its a matter of what you get used to. I've mentioned it a couple of times in my office and nobody seems to get heartburn over it, so neither do I.

You never see narrative reports in all caps. Just forms.

Just because somebody doesn't type well doesn't mean they aren't a good appraiser.

I taught all my kids how to keyboard using a computer game that was sort of similar to "Pac Man".....Guess I'm showing my age.
Happy Thanksgiving

Nah, to be an "old guy" I would have said "skirt".

I think you're reaching with that statement. I know quite a few good appraisers who still type in all caps and are excellent typists. To some, it's just habit.

Just curious, how many hunt and peck people are out there? I'm referring to typing, of course. I learned back in 9th grade, best class I ever took since my cursive was so bad.

lleps rekcehc....on hear, it would diminish mindless entertainmint

TC.....old guys are filled wit wisdom, CAPS were used by my mentor, as the original readers were older and couldn't afford goggles most times or were in need of replacemint coke bottle lensesss

During the period of insurance loss werk, our "girl"....secratery.....whateva typed in all caps for the insurace folk via taped chit chat. We had to carry round a recorder when on the fire loss hoopla, so that we could remember which "Loss" we were talking about. Bring it back to the office, she would put on headphones and type. It's bean round for a long tyme, for you young puppies......look whatcha missed owt on....rofl - now all ya can do is ***** about it......lol

TC - didn't mean to cast doubts about the appraisal abilities of all cap typists.......just mean to say that people who appraise on forms use all caps alot of the time and people who do narrative work don't.

And you are right - I've seen people who can haul tater on the keyboard using only two fingers.
