Does anybody have high speed wireless internet access that would accomodate normal appraisal activity--not just stock quotes and sports scores--but research, report sending, etc? We've been hearing about its availability but not too many specifics like download/upload speeds etc. Sprint claims to be rolling out something this year.

Any thoughts/ideas?[/i]

If you mean wirless high speed where you would be completely mobile and could roam around like you do with your cell phone, as far as I know it does not exist. I know there is supposed to be something coming out that will use the cellular system better than the present technology but I doubt it will be "high speed" such as DSL or cable is.

I presently have a cellular modem in my laptop and the highest I have been able to connect is 9600 bps. In my opinion if they could get this technology to the point where I could connect almost as fast as a dialup modem, then it would be acceptable. However for sending large files it would be slow, like dial up.

If you mean satellite high speed access for a specific location it exists in some area, however is not near as good as dsl or cable modem.

If you mean wireless that will work within 100 to 1500 feet of a wired access point to dsl or cable then yes, that works well, I have it.

If you live in one of 20+ of the major markets that Ricochet serviced, there might be hope in the near future. The original service which provided wireless access at either 28k or 128k, depending on city, went bankrupt and the assets were sold to another company who has said that they are going to relaunch the service again. You can check www.ricochet.com for information updates. I have a digital cell phone and hook it up to my notebook at times. I get 14.4k connections, which are only good for e-mail and maybe some light web surfing. If I tried to e-mail a 1 meg PDF file I'd probably run out of notebook battery before the file finished sending. :)

are you able to do any type of research like MLS or tax roll search? this could be handy if your prelim. research was bad and you need new comps in the field.
