Wonder if any houses in San Bruno had FHA loans?

Lewiston, don't let one person and their insensitivity drive you away. The initial post may have been in ignorance, but the second one was just downright mean.
 
The whole concept is a bit perplexing. Why would FHA give a rip about PG&E lines near the houses? Lord knows PG&E (via insurance companies) will fully indemnify the owners their loss. The owners/borrowers are still obligated to pay their mortgage. Their insurance company (if they are like most) will pay for temporary housing...some for up 2 years while the houses are rebuilt. If they aren't rebuilt (for whatever reason) relocation will be demanded for similar housing in the area by the lawyers.

I can't imagine a half-brained lawyer wouldn't be able to pin PG&E down for all costs assocated with rebuilding, etc...what exactly is the risk FHA is taking insuring the mortgage?

I was just wondering if appraisers who did FHA assignments in that neighborhood discussed the high pressure gas line and proximity of the homes to and within the easement.

Someone still doesn't get it. How's about you just apologize and leave it at that? The 'get a grip' shows you just don't get it.
 
Tradgedy strikes all of us in some way almost daily it seems. To get bent out of shape over some comments made by others on an internet forum or any other means is so typical of todays PC mindset. Surely we can do better than a see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil mentality since its so easy for a n easily offended PCer not to read that particular paper or internet site, watch that TV show, or listen to that radio program. I'm so sick of this PC bullsheit I'm ready to smack the hell out of somebody. Yeah, I said it. Put on your big girl panties and get the freak over it.

I have been guilty of making asinine comments myself, but when I see that I have offended somebody I apologize. Where you and I may take it as a joke the person living through it doesn't.

We used to use the term "raped" around here quite a bit. When somebody lost at something really bad we would say , "oh you got raped".
Now we have somebody in the family that it actually happened to. I slipped and said that one time accidentally. I didn't correct her but instead apologized for my comment very quickly.

Whether I meant to hurt someone's feelings or not wasn't the point.

Probably not. We had another thread on this and I was pretty suprised by some of the responses. Most of the appraisers didn't feel it was their responsibility and several treated the topic rather lightly.
If I know there are high pressure lines in an area I state so in the report but as someone else pointed out they are not always clearly marked.
I have never seen this noted on a sales contract and I wonder how many people have bought houses not even knowing that they had lines running near or through their yard.
 
The difference is that for FHA assignments this is a reporting requirement spelled out in black and white.
