Using a heat gun is (probably) the most efficient way to remove lead-based paint: it doesn't produce dust, it doesn't involve caustic chemicals (with their own set of environmenatal, handling and safety issues) and it's a lot cheaper than replacing whatever part of the house suffers from the lead paint affliction. Heat makes the paint soften, makling it easy to remove with a scraper. Not to dismiss the dangers of lead poisoning, there's probably more risk from lead in the supply plumbing of old houses than there would be in the properly managed removal of defective lead-based paint.referring to FHA and lead paint abatement, i like how it mentions not using torches lol idk just always found this silly. there must have been a time gone-by that this was common
