Your Iranian friends are going to have a very different perspective as people who left there. I'm not saying it's great, just that it's exaggerated. They (Persians) are actually a much more liberal people than the our buddy-buddy Arab countries (and will become more liberal once out from under the stupid religious dictatorship).
