I agree with everything he said. ....... He could have incorrectly spelled each word and still would have made a wonderful point. ......... I also don't see how he was throwing any stones in his glass house.

Mark that is a wonderful post and nicely sums up both sides of the debate.

I for one destroy the English language every time I open my mouth. It is not intentional, and as somebody pointed out earlier, it is because I am sloppy, lazy or just don't care. Some of it comes from what I learned as a child, hear around me daily, or because I have forgotten what I was taught in school. It has cost me a great deal at times. Those that know me will confirm it. Unfortunately, as you so eloquently put it, there is no reason for it.

Mastery of the language is a marvelous tool that can give credibility to it's wielder and paint lasting images in the mind of the receiver. Using the right words correctly does not make you right and never will. Actions will always trump words.

As you clearly stated, the original poster could have made every grammatical/spelling error and you would have understood. Does that not contradict the point. An educated and intelligent person with true professional knowledge can make sense of the most obscure questions. A truly secure person is not threatened, nor irritated by the inferior.

It is not the grammar or the spelling that is the problem. It is the unqualified, uneducated, and unethical flood that is the problem. The industry has indicated they like the fact they can get those types to do their bidding. The true professionals are being brushed aside and ignored. They can no longer do the job they invested heavily in and take so seriously.

The grammar and spelling are indicators, trigger so to speak, that point out those who may be the enemy. Things went too far and now to clean it up seems to be an impossible task. Frustration has set in and we lash out at even the smallest red flag.

I have no doubt that the road will be bumpy and while a few undeserving will be sacrificed along the way, the professionals will get one last shot at their rightful place. Then again, I have been wrong once or twice before.

I think the OP has said something that I have also wanted to say, but was afraid to say on this forum, for fear of setting off rebukes from Pieface and and angry robots from Florida. It has been my observation that many forum participants do not want to change, whether it is bad grammar and spelling, bad attitudes, or bad business practices.

Perhaps Wayne can add spell check and grammar check features for this forum so that we can sound more erudite than we really are.

Go bark at someone else, your point is moot.
Geez Lawrence, spend some time getting to know the posters instead of blowing a gasket over their grammar, and you'd know that Mark has a great sense of humor, and that this was a joke.

Sorry if I missed the joke. Smilies are helpful tools.

i lke 2 type lke i txt.

Most of the computer generation likes to type quickly and abbreviate. In an appraisal report it is one thing. I always spell check before I send. I feel the forums are kind of like a conversation. Ever stutter a little bit when you talk to someone. I feel sorry for the people on here that spend the whole day typing a paragraph to make sure it is grammatically correct. I wonder how many people on here still type with 1 finger.

I wish this forum was directed more to helping the less knowledgeable and not stunning someone with a dumb question. Whats that saying? "The only stupid question is the one that’s not asked"? Everyone complains at the lack of quality of others and about skippy but not all of us were lucky enough to enter the industry with a USPAP compliant, ethical, intelligent mentor. My mentor was money driven and not an appraiser by hobby which it seams some of you are. I look at these forums as a place to speak with a more experienced appraiser.

Has anyone else ever visited anothers industries forum? For example if you go into an HVAC forum its not dedicated to complaining about the new EPA polices. It is usually advise sharing.

My grammer mite not be perfect, but at least I don't wear blue jeans and I do take my shoes off when going into a clients house.
