As the 'boomers age, a good majority of the houses will evolve into structures lacking maintenance and upgrades. Some neighborhoods will decay faster than others. There are natural factors and there are human factors. Governments will likely become less endowed with time. We are entering the Age of Decay. We may seem some rebound after 2040, but likely limited. There will appear be a few islands of growth. Unfortunately where you see growth, even if is mostly relative, the birthrates are low (e.g. Singapore). Russia sees this in Europe and thinks it can take over, unaware it is also suffering the same symptoms to an even greater degree - for somewhat other reasons - and that no matter how hard it tries, it will inevitably be pulled down by its own population, thinking it is simply weeding out its own undesirables through a sanctioned chocking of the alcoholics, out-of-work and otherwise lower caste. China thinks the same, with its government sanctioned starving of the lower class. The US and other western countries dump their fortunes into protecting and nourishing the lower class the traditional rejects of society --- while chocking the young and bright stars of an ignored generation. Who will win in the end? Nobody?

I would predict that Western governments will become far more authoritarian and centralized. There will be less tolerance. The privileged minorities will eventually be ignored and swept under the rug by the majority - lamenting there is just goddamn not enough to go around for everybody. Without a rich government, the liberals will be replaced by outlaws at war with officials elected by the public. There is not enough to go around, just enough for the most powerful. Like in the Middle Ages. Like in the Future. It will be a cruel life. Maybe the end of the world.

We are entering the Age of Decay, in any case. How long it lasts, hard to say.

As for AI, that is just a wild card for the Cartels and Mafias.

WAIT! The above is just a possibility. I just hate being optimistic.

Because the lap dogs keep trying to get back on board. Each time the ship comes back to port the strays pay for another voyage and off they go.

The HMS Wash- Rinse and Repeats Captain, thought it was out of fresh red meat, but there are more lingering strays then originally estimated. The AMCs and GSEs agreed to keep coming back to port for as long as people are signing up.
