How is your May?

May has been good for me. So far this month, I have completed 23 appraisals and have orders for five more. So I have been working some long hours. My average fee for this month is $375.

However, I know that this is probably not common for my area. I am very fortunate that most of my clients are banks and not mortgage companies. The banks tend to be more stable, plus they always pay. In addition it gives me a wider variety of work – refinances, purchases, proposed construction and even foreclosure work.

April was the best month for us within the last 2 years, with 62 orders. We're at 57 so far in May, with 4 working days remaining in the month. It was a little quiet late this past week, likely due to the holiday weekend, but we still got 3 orders on Friday alone. We've been doing a lot of FHA work lately, as well as legal/estate deals. 2 full time appraisers (the second of whom just got on the FHA roster) and me, a full time office manager/ appraiser assistant/ trainee awaiting my AL upgrade from the OREA...

I'm gonna have to start turning work down so that I can find the time to finish my Demo Report for my MAI designation. Well..........back to the grind!

Same boat too. I keep telling myself things will be better once I get it done...however things are pretty good right now and have been very good since I finished my comprehensive well over a year ago. Kind of wish they had a demo class for the MAI like the SRA...at least I could take a week off.

It's been overall average in our office for May, but very sporadic. The first few weeks were slow yet the last week was really good. Go figure the logic.

I'm averaging about 7 a week. It's been like that all year. some weeks I'll have five and some weeks I'll have 9 or 10.

As is predictable for the appraisal business, business has been very unpredictable this month. Slow up to the last week and have gotten in about 2500 worth of business in the past 3 business days. Month will end above average, but I would never have guessed it a week ago.

I just got an order for a complex land appraisal and also got a notice in the mail that I have been approved for my first local bank! Things are looking up!

Worst month for me in the last 5 years easy. Usually do 20 or so orders in a month. I think I've done 3 or 4 so far this month.

It's very slow in Florida, only 3 this month. I may be because I have been checking the declining market box. So lenders went elseware....

34 so far... Not to bad for little ol me.
