Client over-paid me

Stealing can never come out in your favor. Sorry but if this is not tongue in cheek .. it is VERY POOR advice.

Count me in for another vote.

You may or may not subscribe to any sort of faith, but whether it's God, Karma, or just plain good character and ethics as your moral base, do what is right.

I have to agree with my fellow New Mexicans. If you will cross over to the dark side for a reinspection fee, then not only are you dishonest, but a cheap one as well. I would send it back.

Deposit it, tell Mega bank they have a credit which can be applied to a future order, sorry no cash value. It's our policy to deduct 5% per month if unused within 12 months. Have a nice day, press 6 to disconnect.

I'm leaning towards depositing then dealing with crediting the lender back. It could easily take them weeks or months to get around to making another payment. This way, I don't get stuck suffering the consequences for the lender's error.

So its ok for a borrower to suffer the consequences of the lenders error? This overpayment has nothing to do with the next job. What if you had over paid for something .. wouldnt you want a refund?
Keep the money and you are stealing from someone. I dont see how you can justify it to yourself to keep it. You know its not yours.
Come on .. man up and do the right thing. That money needs to be returned.

Call them and ask them what to do. They may say Merry Christmas. But don't keep it waiting on them to catch their error or the next job.

So its ok for a borrower to suffer the consequences of the lenders error? Never been at the mercy of your bank? Count your blessings. This overpayment has nothing to do with the next job. What if you had over paid for something .. wouldnt you want a refund? Happens frequently and frequently I am issued a credit.
Keep the money and you are stealing from someone. Giving a credit is not stealing. I dont see how you can justify it to yourself to keep it. You know its not yours.

'nuff said.

No .. not nuff said .. ITS NOT YOUR MONEY .... its most probably the borrowers money. I say a full refund is necessary and mandated by ethics. Its not your clients money its the borrowers money. The borrower can not be given a credit as they will most probably never use your services again.
If you work differently then I feel badly for your clients.

I seriously doubt the borrower paid twice going through the "big bank".

I dont know. I just know giving the money back is the right thing to do. Its not my money. Im shocked that is so hard to understand and the more I think about it the more disheartened I get about our profession. Im glad my father instilled ethics and morality in me. I always return double payments because its the right thing to do.
