Don't have it in writing but the appraiser ethics portion of your statement has been conveyed to us directly by the senior management of another little government program.

WHAT DOES THE OIG HOTLINE DO? We take reports of fraud, waste, abuse, and serious mismanagement in HUD-funded programs and operations and refer such allegations to OIG investigators and auditors, or to HUD program officials to ensure that allegations of wrongdoing are independently addressed.
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY --

FRAUD - individuals, groups, or businesses that are stealing taxpayers' monies from HUD.
WASTE - individuals, groups, or businesses that are spending taxpayers' monies in a manner that does not further HUD's mission and goals.
ABUSE - HUD officials or HUD-funded local officials whose actions exceed the authority granted to them by HUD policies and regulations.
SERIOUS MISMANAGEMENT - a significant failure by a HUD program office or a program office entity that is due to managerial incompetence or inattention.
HOW DO I CONTACT THE OIG HOTLINE? There are four ways to contact the OIG Hotline:
You can call us toll-free at - 1-800-347-3735
You can fax us at - (202) 708-4829
You can e-mail us at - hotline@hudoig.gov

You can write us at -

So, back to the OP, is someone going to show us this blacklist, or was this just a disgruntled loan agent making an empty threat? When I was a chief appraiser, I occasionally got such e-mails from disgruntled loan agents, laughed, and then pressed the delete button.

I had a case where I had a LO solicitate me for FHA loans because I am also a Realtor. I ask particular questions about how they handle the appraisal process, sure enough they have Skippy and demand unethical behavior, when I asked them about this they expressed that they were not doing anything wrong and that all their appraisers do it, also with FHA. I sent the info to the HUD Hotline and documented on the MFWL. About a month later, I received that the matter had been investigated and closed. In other words, they got busted.

So Yes, the HUD Hotline does work. They also track www.mortgagefraudwatchlist.org.

As far as alternative careers go, I think that Royce Olney, a former Lobo basketball starter has the right idea. He has a business as a trout fishing guide on the San Juan river and also leads guided elk hunts up in Colorado. Mariied a very nice young hotty. Doesn't get much better than that.

Sounds a lot better than tring to explain USPAP and ethics to clueless LOs. Or trying to gett paid for a good appraisal that won't close the deal.

keep in mind that FHA appraisers who keep doing the job right, full HFA inspections, (charge for them) accurate reporting of property inadequacies, (be sure to differentiate between cosmetic and health and safety) will begin to be noticed as ethical professional appraisers by ethical lenders. *Note* print and take the old VC condition pages with you to each FHA inspection. (don't add or reference them in the body of the report) keep them in the work file, they help you "not to forget an inspection item. They are also helpful when questioned on the FHA report.

Ok. So you have it in writing. This is good.

First question, who is 'everyone'? Can a reply from you to 'everyone' be made? That is, if this client relationship matters, otherwise, proceed to step two.

Second, can you put all of it together and send it to your HOC? They do have folks that care, believe me. I'd start with a call and explain the situation, and then get a contact person who's interested in the situation and forward all the evidence.

BUT...........do NOT redact the names of these sewer pond scum sippers.

But, what I did want to do is share my paranoia about trying companies in the court of public opinion.

Whichever company it is, it would be interesting to invite them (management) to comment. There would be risks involved, of course.
